Best Air intake?

I am about to put an air intake on my runner and i was wondering what will give it the most power for pulling. Would you recommend a Cold air intake? I am looking at the K&N intakes, are they better than cheaper brands?
Thanks

This has been discussed for almost 8 years now. The Deckplate mod has been dyno tested to provide 5-7 HP on a 3rd gen V-6. You are not going to get more than that from a CAI or K&N so the general concensus is save some $$$ and do the deckplate mod.

I'm actually pondering adding the Airaid Jr intake to my deckplate mod, which is just the intake elbow and a high flow filter. The only thing stopping me is that I can't find any conclusive proof on it helping. I searched Yotatech and found people that have it, but no one really says either way if it was worth it. I may just get it anyway.

I'd like to do the Airraid pipe just to clean up the engine bay a bit and alot of people say the throttle response is increased and I can see that by getting rid of the silencer piece.

The reason I was thinking of doing both is because I still have the factory filter in there now and wanted something with more flow. I've just never used anything from Airaid before on any of my other/past vehicles.

I dont know what the airraid pipe looks like, but if it is similar to what they call the ISR mod on YT then I agree that would be a good addition and cleans up the engine bay as well. I never got around to doing the ISR mod and I like the noise level where it is right now. How much louder would the intake noise get?

Yeah it is similiar to the ISR mod, but looks better lol! Usually intakes don't get loud unless you are dropping the hammer. It looks like this:

I think I am going to order one soon.

Get the Volant Cold Air Intake, that's what I've got and it sounds like a beast, and I definitely noticed an increase of HP!

I just leave the top of my air filter open- it's the cheapo lazy edition of the deckplate mod. :bigok: Sounds great, no modification needed, and 100% reversible

Don't those cost like $300? That's alot of $$$ per hp gained.

I'm sure it looks *****in' when the hood is up tho'.

How about some pics?

i got mine (K&N) for christmas and got dad a K&N for the next christmas, he has a 2003 limited V8
yes it was about $325 for both, but i think i would rather do the ISR mod and the Deck plate if your real tight on money
i have the 3.4L V6 in my 96, here are some pictures as its in the car
