Best and worst decisions you've made with mods

Just wondering, maybe we can learn from each others mistakes and ideas...

The mod I think payed off the most for me was my Pioneer stereo...

I have to admit, my worst was when I plastidipped the lettering on my black 3rd gen red... didn't look so hot on my truck lol

So wondering what about you guys?

My worst: attempting to black-out my headlights on my own. Looked good for about two days and then, they PERMANENTLY fogged up. Ended up buying after-markets on Amazon.

My best: It's a toss up- HID's and gauge cluster/HVAC control panel LED swap. I could live without my lift, wheels and tires, but I would simply cry without my HID's and LED swap.

I'm gonna go with my K&N cai. I love the way it sounds and how simple it is to get to the passenger side spark plugs, but now I need to figure out a custom piping to run a snorkel since I dont have the stock airbox :shrug:

the headlights fogging. do you still have these headlights? you might want to use them to reseal them properly and maybe when they are opened up, do a projector upgrade. HID in stock housings really dont put the light down to the road as well as projectors. they are a huge improvement over stock halogen bulbs. its like some one turned on the lights at night!!

my best: coming up with the "12volt outlets in each door panel" idea. no more fighting over that one outlet in the 4th gens

my worst: cant think of anything right now.

My "worst" was plasti dipping my rims. It started to fade and wear offroad and really regret not just painting them. Wasted a few cans of plasti dip and an afternoon. I guess if that's the worst mod I've done it's not too bad.
My favorite mod is super basic and half the people on here have done it but def lifting it and tires. Just those two things made my t4r a million more times capable and fun offroad.

Best decision was the 22R-TE motor for the turbo truck. If I never bought that motor, I'd have sold the truck long ago.

My first post. Hey y'all. Great thread idea.

I have to contest the Probe GT as worst. I bought one in '91. 80k on the clock drove it till 2004 when I sold it to my brother. Odometer at sale: 257k. He put another 30k on it before the slave cylinder went (second time I'd replaced it once).

Worst mod: poor choice of exhaust (HD Sportster in 2002).

Best: added red floor lighting for when something gets dropped on the floor at night. Pre LED. I'll do it again with LED this time.

Worst mod was my HID converted Hella Black Magic's. Just... No. The guides I followed had converted regular Hella 500's with okay results but the Black Magics have black inserts to make them... well.. Black. They had to be moved to fit the longer HID bulbs and I ended up with a big fat money waste with a crap beam. They were bright as heck tho, brighter than me for even trying. :dizzy:

Best mod has got to be tires. I didn't go up to 33's yet but my A/T 31's (~31.5-ish) have been a huge improvement over just street tires (obviously). Next would have to be the lift, it has been nice not dragging my hitch on everything while wheeling lately. I'll let you guys know how new bumpers compare to the rest of my mods soon. :eyebrows:

Not the entirety of all Probe GT's, I meant just the one I had, and the circumstances which led to me selling it. Long story. Mazda did a good job designing the GD platform, I think any GD can be made to achieve great heights relatively easily compared to similar cars, such as Honda Prelude. If I were to do it again, I'd go for the Mazda MX6.

Sold the '89 Probe GT in December '13 and just bought an '89 Supra turbo in July. Swapped 89's for a car I will be much happier with, a grand touring car with a removable roof. Can't wait to drive it to Arizona.

Im assuming your talking about exhaust ON the bike, but the punched out sporty exhaust on my truck sounds pretty good... Haha.

Worst for me would have to be plasti dipping my roof, holding the can on the angle needed made it spray out uneven and it looked like shit. Wasted $50 worth of plasti dip, peeled it off before it was even dried.

I got a ways to go but so far:

Best: Suspension lift (Icon stage 1 mostly, I still need to upgrade the rear shocks though) Before lift, was hitting head on ceiling and bouncing cargo over the smallest things in the desert as I was constantly hitting bump stops.

Worst: Probably my wheels. While they perform perfectly well, I just don't like them, not my first choice, should have looked harder for a backup!

Worst: Rola basket. It's almost completely rusted through in several spots in less than a year.

thats good info to know. rola rack is real popular on here and many other forums because of the price and style. my yakima was on my truck for 2 years, and i took it off a 2006 xterra that had it on since new car delivery. so it was outside for its whole life and it never rusted at all. i looked into getting a rola rack before i bit the bullet and bought my [MENTION=77764]Whitson Metalworks[/MENTION] rack. thanks for letting me know i made the right choice.

If I could go back I would take the money and put it towards a gobi or whitson. I currently have 60ft of pipe sitting at home waiting for me to build my new rack.

Maybe rola will honor their warranty and replace this one.

Was your Rola welded together to make a one-piece?
I did that and also welded several brackets etc. to mine with good results.
It was starting to show rust VERY quickly before I did so.
