I was reading through Okki's camping/fire ring thread and saw some good suggestions and some not so good suggestions. I'm looking at you Titanpat57 & phillyd2 :lmao:
This got me thinking, since there are a lot of avid campers/off roaders/tail gaters on this forum, I thought it would be cool to start a thread dedicated to cool camping gadgets.

This could include anything from collapsable dog dishes to camping stoves, storage containers, tie downs, foot stools, tarps, tools and everything in between.

One of the best camping gadgets I ever bought was a Campmate Organizer/Camping Kitchen. Below is a stock image. We keep our cutting board and propane stove on the top area where you see pots/pans in the photo. Its really nice because the lid snaps on while in transport and serves as a big wash basin while on site.

Unfortunately, it looks like they're sold out (or stopped making them), but this camp kitchen from REI is clutch. It folds up really small and is pretty solid when it's all set up. Makes life so much nicer when your out in the wilderness!

looks like it was made by camp chef and licensed by REI....don't quote me on that but alot of the pieces look similar just different colors...
 
My truck is my best camping gadget! I used to go in for trying out all the cool kitchen and camp stuff, but I quickly realized that it takes up space and takes time to pack and unpack and set up and take down and clean when you're done, and now I'm much more likely to get out and about when I don't bother schlepping all that stuff along. I like to pack simple and light now.

This should evolve nicely.

Lots of guys have families and mortgages...so equipment that has "true/exceptional value" (i.e. reasonably priced and rugged=good value) is hard to come by..especially for those just starting out.

It's nice to buy gear and get great service from it.

On the porti potty side of things..

Had a few, and the one one I have now has been to easiest to date to use, clean and empty...

It has a simple operating flush and is very durable..(shut up Jeff!) and has a crush limit of 3 tons...

i always just dig a hole, lean against a stump or tree , or when up on the glaciers (poo will last 100's of years) just use the standard bag and tag method combined with a poop tube...

Why, though? I have a truck to sleep in and a tailgate to put stuff on and an open fire or a small cookstove to heat food up. I'm actually right in the middle of reworking what foods I bring and what I cook so I can eliminate the cooler, or at least go smaller.

I found it was too easy to forget that being out and about is the goal. Having cool stuff is great until it gets in the way, and for me all that stuff gets in the way. If you're going to do all that with the shower tent and the collapsible kitchen and the ARB fridge, just get a 5th wheel already. :)

haha, fair enough but then why have the truck? i have levels of camping comfort as it's what i live for, haha, i got the 1971 vw westfilia bus as my version of the 5th wheel, then i got the 4runner with the cargobox/sleeping platform if i want to go off road and away from grandad and the kids in normal camp grounds, and then beyond that i gotz me feet and hike 10~15 miles out or more....i get what your saying but car camping is a joke anyways, so why not have all of that stuff you can and be comfortable?

just saying the cargo box , helps immensely with organization and space ..and you can still sleep on top of it, only draw back is your no longer moving furniture in the back of your 4runner...or at least tall or wide furniture..pick one....as both wont work...

yea..light and "spartan" is my schtick also..


The problem is you can't drag a 5th wheel just anywhere...

and besides...how am i going to fit my 6 beers in right away if I don't have a 3 hour set up?!

Got me a hammock (way lighter and smaller than a tent) and a jet boil sol pcs. Ill say Both of these were awesome this last year and i recommend both to anyone!!! Im gunna get the coffee press for the jet boil for this next year!!!

Don't forget this when you go backpacking with the weight and space savings of not having a tent i had room for the good stuff!

Yea, it took some getting used to and I really didn't sleep well the 1st time but after i adjusted how I hung it its been great! I have to hang it so it doesn't droop in the middle.

On a side note i took some popcorn kerenels and oil and made fresh popped popcorn for me and my buddies in the jetboil. That thing is wicked cool!!!!
