Looking for the best option for rock slider coating. Previoulsy I sanded,rubbed acetone, primed with Rustoleum etching primer, and sprayed the Rustoleum bedliner spray, and there was some rust showing through after last winter in Michigan primarily where the bolt holes are. I have a quote to piwder coat for $325 locally. Any thoughts on if this will hold up better with salt in the winter? Is Linex better? Thanks

I think the problem would be prep. Rust never sleeps, and it never dies. You need sandblast, prep, paint/coat. Install and touch up again. Pack all you stuff and move as far away from Michigan as you can...I lived in Milwaukee for a long time. The Midwest eats all cars.

I made mine and started out by spray painting them, then truck bed liner and now I’m just going to have them Powder coated. They get scarred up just about every trip, but I think that the other, harder to paint areas will hold up a bit better. I can always touch up the outside with a good rattle can.

+1 on coating it with rocks...
But between each coating of rocks, I use this stuff... Its worked out really well, holds up great to being stepped on and overall durability. Deep scratches like rocks just get a touch up every now and again and seems to be all I really need to do.
Glad I went this route over powder-coat for ease of touch-up since this stuff doesn't chip. I was also impressed with the finished considering it came out a rattle can, but I did apply multiple coats of both primer and paint to start with.

Rust can exist under powder. I have proof. Plus powder will expose more metal when you drag it on rocks etc. Waste of money unless you're 100% mall crawler. Then its fine.
Obviously the climate here in TX is different than yours in MI, but I think the way you went about coating them is the best and easiest to maintain.

I found that rustoleum wrinkle finish (in a can) to be much more durable than I expected it to be.
The texture does add a little bit of grip but not much, so I have thrown a bit of sand on the still curing paint of the first coat, and then painted over the sand with a few other coats. If you wanted a little more defined look, grip tape in the correct places works as well for the extra traction.

really depends on whether you're offroading it..$325 buys an awful lot of spray paint..the sliders on my off road rig get pretty beat up..usually once a year I'll pull them, sand them down, then hit them with some primer and several coats each of hammered gray rustoleum paint..I find that looks the best..The process of applying the extra coats of paint and letting it dry in between has given me the best results.
