Rock and rust (salt induced) protection.

Guys,

Looking for some suggestions for some rock and rust protection for my 4Runner.

Mostly it's the forward portion of the hood and front area(s).

Here in Utah they over-salt the roads big time during the winter months. The plow comes through plowing snow and throwing salt and 15 minutes later some bozo will come along and re-plow and throw even more salt down. It's ridiculous, but it's Utah...

Anyways, looking at the idea of using bedliner for the aforementioned areas. However, I don't want to sand these areas for prep thereby wrecking the clear coat and paint job.

So, would prepping the area with adhesive promoter work instead? Anybody here have any experience with this process?

They do the same to the roads here in MD.

I had to replace the rusted-out frame on my 83 Toyota truck because it gets so bad.

Northern Illinois the same. All the municipal workers must go to the same seminars on snow removal which are put on by road salt suppliers!

Well there is obviously the front hood protector that you can get at toyota or aftermarket.

Thing with road salt is, when you have visual cues of rust damage, the underside of the truck will be 2x worse thab what you tought.

Here in canada we rust proof with oil or a mix of oil and grease most of the time, and that pretty much stops rusting if done well.

get a winter beater to take the abuse. its an interesting feeling not caring about what happens to something.
