Best deal on tires right now?

I just picked up my first t4r and so far really liking it. Have some work to do (sliders, maybe some different shocks/springs, a paint touchup), but the big deal right now are tires and maybe wheels too.

The truck currently has 15" 3 spoke split (or is that 6 spoke?) wheels and nearly brand new 225/75r15 Firestone Winterforce studded tires on it. The seller says he has a pair of Falken AT's in 235/75r15's with 1000mi off the vehicle he'll have installed if I want. I definitely don't need the studs so I told him we can do the swap next week.

At this point, though, I'm weighing my options on which tires would have better resell as I would rather have larger tires-no lift installed or anticipated on the truck.

To that end, what's the best deals you've seen lately on either 31x10.5r15 or equivalents or 265/70 or 75 r16's (AT's - hopefully aggressive but still as quiet/long lasting as possible)? Looks like it is about $140 to have the 15"'s powder coated and ~$200 for 16" takeoffs and I haven't seen side by side pictures so I don't know that I'd really tell much of a difference. I think I'll let tire prices drive my decisions.

Since you are new here I'll break it to you easy. As you probably have noticed you have has a bunch of views or your thread and I your first reply. This is because this topic has been covered a half dozen times a week. Please search for a key word of tires and you should have tons of threads. We all would need more info on your rig and your intended uses for it. These are questions only you can answer and you need to be honest with yourself so you can build your rig right without wasting money.

By the tire size, I'm guessing that you have a 4 cylinder engine. This might limit the size/weight/diameter of your tires. You can go big but you will be re-gearing.

No one is going to be able to tell you what the best price is on a tire in your area. You will need to figure out what you want then start calling your local tire shops.

Sorry, that post was as rambling and not to the point as I have ever posted anywhere.

Not really looking for a tire review/recommendation per se. I'm more just interested in any great deals on tires. I've read a bunch of the posts (Nitto Terra Grapplers, Hankook Dynapro ATM's, Duratrac's, BFG's...) so I'm familiar with the recommendations. Truck is a 3.4l, 4x4 base package SR5 and came with the 15"'s. My DD but also my weekend hunting/fireroading/camping rig as well - and I've found myself in the mountains alone down some road that turned into nasty, rutted mudfest as well. I was running Wild Country SXT's on my last truck and while bought a little piece of mind for those unexpected mud days, they wore way to fast so I've decided on goign to AT's this time.

At this moment, I'm leaning towards upping my wheels to 16" and buying the brand new Cooper ATP's at $135ea (shipped!) from Discount Tire Direct. I'm just looking for the best can I can get though so am open to any other deal that you currently see. If I find a smoking deal on some nice 15"'s, that would be fine with me too. Just trying to crowd-source the shopping process.

As you probably know, an AT will not perform in mud as well as a MT. MTs will wear down faster than an AT. If i was alone and came up on thick mud, I would avoid it no matter what tires I had. If you say ATs, people are going to have dozens of opinions which is best. Myself, I have had BFG ATs and they do great. I'm now running Yokohama A/T-S and they are even better (ride, balance, snow traction, lower price).

Discount tire will match prices. That is where I buy.

If you are venturing out by yourself a lot I would consider being as self sufficient as possible. (winch, food, water, blankets, tools, parts, etc)

I bought 5 Treadwright Guard Dogs MT in 265/75/16 that were shipped to me for a total of ~$600 in April 2010. I've put about 20,000 miles on them and they still have about 2/3 of the tread left. I'd check them out before you purchase. You should also do a search on retread tires too. Lots of people have opinions on them. I've not had any problems with them and will get my next tires there too.
