Best Deal So Far. What do you think?

Guys

Thanks for the help with pricing my 4 runner. I have beaten up my local dealers just about enough I think. Its been a little humerous at times. I have found that all the Toyota dealers invoice price is betwen 1000 to $1500 or more above Edmunds invoice after they add in fees that include dealer holdback, advertising, floor plan assistance and finance allowance. When you question these fee's with the sales manager they all pretty much stick to their story that they are not double dipping and getting this back from the manufacture as well. I'm not sure I will ever break the code on this one unless a friend becomes a sales manager for a toyota dealer and I torture him for info:D

The last american car I bought (last week) I paid invoice plus tt&l. No fees added. The dealers got their holdback and other monies from the manufacture and were happy. The truck I bought before that I paid invoice minus 300. Again no added fees. This toyota accounting technique is a bit perplexing but the dealerships all have the same story when you try and remove the fee's.

Edmunds invoice for the 4runner and the TMV price differs by 1000-1400 bucks so maybe there is something more than meets the eye here or the dealers must be getting to most of us to be posting those selling price TMV numbers.

For those of you who are not yet asleep from my post, I'm almost done :)

My "Best Deal So Far" is 500 bucks above edmunds flat invoice fee plus TT&L. The dealers can massage the numbers however they want but that figure is $1100 below the TMV for the optioned make and model priced exactly on edmunds.

What do you think? Have you done better with zero rebates... which there are none on the 06 presently? If so, please help me and others out there who are negotiating at this time. I'm not out to deprive the dealers and salesmen from getting a fair price but lets face it. If they can (and it happens frequently) take you to the cleaners they will.

Thanks again

Ron

They should not be charging you a holdback fee, that is paid to the dealer from the manufacturer. I don't understand that at all.
I know Toyota charges different fees depending on the region the dealer is in.
For some reason the dealers in the S.E. part of the country have a lot more fees that they pay and have to pass on to the buyer.
Just something I learned from all the info I got when I went through fightingchance.com.
Are you in the S.E.?
Dealers don't seem to be very motivated to deal in the beginning of the model year.
Bottom line is if you are satisfied with the deal and it suits your wallet.

Agree with you on holdback. Yes I am in the Southeast. Would you be happy if you found out that you could have/should have paid a thousand less? Maybe you would. My objective is to expose inflated fee's and overstated cost and get a fair price while allowing the dealership and the saleman to make a fair commission. Thanks for the reply

just buy from the interest sales dept, they're give you a better deal than walking into the dealership w/o anything.

also, just bring a copy of the invoice price from kbb/edmunds/anywhere and then compare the price and just pay whatever you want.

you can easily get 500 over invoice (straight invoice) w/o any fees etc etc so good luck.

No, I would not be happy. That's why after I make a purchase I stop looking at sales and advertising. Like you, I shop and compare and research and research some more and compare some more. Once I decide to make the purchase, hopefully I've gotten the best price, I just quit looking. Because it never fails that once you make the decision to purchase something, a week or month later you see the samething for a lower price and you start thinking damn, I could'a, would'a, should'a, and you can drive yourself crazy.
