Just a guess on my part but I think [MENTION=68039]-JD-[/MENTION] was referring too the OP and the YouTube video of the "flashlight" that transforms into a machinegun, thusly his comment of "...living in that kind of fear..." ...but I could be wrong

You do realize, I am very sure, but are being obtuse with this specific set of tools for obvious reasons- that a purpose or need is defined and assigned differently by each individual based on their needs, wants, wisdom, knowledge, ability, freedom and life experiences; not all material objects will have the same purpose or fill the same requirement or role for each person.
That is exactly why you are being ridiculous and I am calling you on it.
You may only believe such a tool is needed out of explicit fear alone, whilst others have MANY different reasons than yours.
You cannot understand why anyone would want something you deem unnecessary or evil or whatever- out of any other emotion or reason other than "fear". That is pure nonsense and you are projecting.

Absolutely. There is no question of what he meant. It's what he meant that I am speaking to. He believes that the only reason for this object is "fear" alone.
That is ridiculous and he is projecting his own BS and negative opinion of such a tool in assuming that the only way anyone could want or use such an object is out of "fear".

Again, I would say you are the one being obtuse here. You are trying to reframe what I said as a debate about the merits of firearms. A debate you are clearly looking to have, which is why you have been so easily triggered.
All I was saying is that carrying a flashlight containing a concealed collapsable automatic gun to carry out activities like taking out the trash, or walking your dog seems ridiculous to me. In my opinion, the psychology of someone to whom this would appeal would suggest a person living in a great deal of fear.

I’m not reframing anything. Your exact argument is stated above! It’s LITERALLY about a firearm and your opinion of it being rediculus!
That’s my point, you’ve made it for me without realizing it. It’s rediculius to “you”. YOU can only imagine someone doing so out of “fear”.
Yet the human condition has many more emotions and motivations regardless of your opinions and perception.
You don’t get to frame the circumstance or needs for everyone nor do you get to posit the motivation of each individuals actions!
You have a negative opinion of firearms, that is obvious.
That is where this all stems from.
That’s whats so rediculus and clouding your responses.
That’s where you’ve made this about emotion and projecting your personal opinions beyond base logic.
If we replaced this material object with a shoe or virtually any other tool or object , my argument, logic and opinion would be the same, yours would change.
So let’s play it out to the logical end here, JD:
The psychology of anyone wanting to wear shoes to take out the trash or walk a dog would suggest a person living in great fear.

By making any category broad enough, sure, you can equate almost anything. A shoe and a firearm are both tools, but that doesn't mean that all tools serve the same function or are somehow equal. To suggest such is ridiculous. "That’s where you’ve made this about emotion and projecting your personal opinions beyond base logic."
I've never claimed that I've made a decision for everyone or every circumstance. It was obviously an opinion. In the same way that if someone said they thought someones new roof rack looked ridiculous there would be no need to post an over the top rant about how it may be useful for some people and not everyone is the same, that they have a bias against roof racks, blah, blah, blah. It's obvious. As I've said, your response is indicative of the fact that you are obviously triggered by this issue and are looking to have a debate, indicating your clear bias.

I am a firearms enthusiast. That had nothing to do with my screen name. I love the dark tower series of books by Stephen king hence “gunslinger”. 13 is a silly slight to those with triskadecaphobia.
A shoe, a baseball bat, a knife, a gun, a skateboard, a hammer, a rock a hockey stick (go avs!) a bottle filled with gasoline and a cotton shirt sticking out of the neck- just objects. All of them.
What humans do with them is the deciding factor.
That’s my point. Perhaps it’s lost on you, or perhaps you wish to debate the merit of inanimate objects personifying emotions and actions?
I’m not “triggered” at all- merely replying and debating the merit, well; lack thereof- of your inability to take ownership for the meaning and intent of your words and the denial of the very essence of your own post.

I didn't watch the video, so for me this all was totally out of context. I actually thought we were all carrying flashlights because we were afraid of the dark!! :doh:

I actually think many who buy very expensive flahslights are, I would rather be in the dark than to pay what most good flashlights cost now-a-days, I'm an old geezer so the most I would pay for any flashlight is no more than $20 to $30 at the most otherwise I'll just walk around in the dark and scare all the ones with flashlights, as long as it's not the flashlight in the video!!!

yeah, the flashlight I bought, the one I posted about that brought me to this thread was about $30.00 but I thought worthy of mention because it's wrist mounted. I have found it to be very useful, especially when you need to do work around your car and bring light somewhere a headlamp wouldn't but also want both hands free. or even walking the dog, you can hold the leash in the same hand as the flashlight so the other hand is free to pick up poop! as for fear, we all carry a spare tire and jack, I am not "afraid" of getting a flat tire. I also carry a small (essentials) socket set and both a Philips and flat head screwdriver, jumper cables and a tow strap. I have used many of those things to help others stranded on the side of the road and in parking lots, far more than I have used them to help myself. I am also a AAA member. Again, I am not "afraid" of needing to tighten a bolt or screw, I just want to be prepared to do so. Most importantly this is the "Best Flashlight" thread, why are we talking about guns?
