Best for highway snow?

Greetings,
I recently purchased a pristine 91 4Runner V6 5sp with the sole intention of being a snow vehicle for the Ski slopes. I really hate putting chains on! My question to the Forum then: other then decent snow tires( Remington AT's 31) is there a must have mod for street snow. Aussie locker, LSD?

I have an LSD in my Trooper and lockers in my 4Runner. In slippery conditions like ice or small snow storms I prefer the Trooper. In slippery street conditions a locker can cause the rear end to slide sideways unpredictably. The LSD can cause that too but it's much less likely.
The lockers on my 4Runner are better in the really deep snow, and since they're selectable, I can turn them off when road conditions change.

Winter-summer tires

Sometimes the simplest answer is the best and cheapest I will find some light weight rims and put studded tires on them during ski season. I bought the truck for "snow" days might as well make it specific as possible.

Invest in some good All Terrain + Snow tires, and when there are big storms go practice driving in the powder before the roads get plowed. 2nd Gen 4runners are very capable even in 2 wheel drive. I have the Yokahoma Geolander AT/S 31" tires. They have been great through the long Colorado winters. Good tires and skill will get the job done.

I run Michelin XC LT4's. They do very very well. Ran around all night last night, we got about 8 in. of good heavy wet snow. Put my light bar and PIAA' s on today at work.

2nd Gen 4runners are very capable even in 2 wheel drive. I have the Yokahoma Geolander AT/S 31" tires.

Looks like I need a set of those Yokahoma's!!

My 2nd gen is atrocious in the snow in 2wd. I can fish tail it up a slightly icy hill in 3rd gear doing 60km/h on the speedo but only actaully doing about 20km/h on the road.

Its so light in the back end.

Put it in 4wd though and its 10 times better, going up the hills is fine after 10-15cms of snow, but coming down can get dicey if I need to brake too hard. Just gotta take it easy, no rush!!
