Hey all, I am looking to purchase another 4R. I had a 2001 that I loved. I needed a truck so I had traded it for a newer Tacoma. Then I needed a bigger truck, so I traded the Tacoma for a Tundra
. Well, now I want to get back into a smaller vehicle in addition to the Tundra. I took the tacoma offroading a couple times and it did really well...despite the length of it.
I was going to get a late 90s cherokee, but the more research I did pointed towards a 4R again. Most of my offroading will be trails at offroad parks. Not much rock crawling. My light research is saying a limited 99 is the best option. My 01 had the CDL, I am looking for a locking rear this time which will limit me to pre 2001. My budget is low, like 4-5K. I am not looking for a pristine car, more a high mile one since its main use will be weekend warrior/offroad toy.
Guess my main question is, is there a difference between 1996-1999 as far as function goes? I am looking for rear locker, V6, Automatic. All other options do not matter to me at this point. Is there a specific year I should be looking for or avoid? Thanks for the help and hopefully I can find what I am looking for.
