Best Front Jack Point?

So where do y'all place a floor jack to get both wheels off the ground? The shop manual shows jacking in the middle of a cross-member where the skid plate has a 6" circular impression with a 1" hole. Jacking there without removing the skid plate first looks like it would bend the skid plate pretty good.

What's the best point? Where the shop manual says? With or without skid plate? Can I slip a piece of wood between the skid plate and cross-member, or jack up one side at a time, trying not to rock the truck off the opposing side stand?

I jacked my truck up for the 1st time ever last night by the skidplate as shown in the service manual, worked fine, no bending or other funny stuff. I'm sure the cross member has to be just above that skidplate at that point, not allowing the skidplate to bend enough to matter.

I always assumed that circular area was the best point and my skid plate has never bent. Just go with that.

Thanks for the reassurances. That point worked fine. The skid plate sprang back into place after lifting, so no annoying buzz or rattle.

It's good to know I wasn't alone with this. The circular thingly LOOKS like a jack point but feels so delicate. Fortunately, it is. I used a piece of wood just to have some extra load distribution. What I don't like is that owner's manuals are dumbing down more and more. This info wasn't in my owner's manual.

Do you have a 3rd gen that isn't listed in your sig? Or are you looking for a 4th or 5th gen?

Just a 4th gen. 4th gens have the same glory hole front end jack point. I posted about it somewhere in the 4th gen forum but I haven't found it yet.

I guess I can just get under the truck and see which is closest to what I've got, i'm just concerned about the obvious disparity between these two "3rd gen" diagrams.

Is anyone willing to clear this up for me?

The only difference between the 2 diagrams is the jackstand points on the crossmember as an alternative to the frame rail on the 2nd diagram. You're overthinking this. Be safe!

Just be sure to use a jack stand before even going below the vehicle.

Also keep in mind if you lift the rear then the rear brakes are no longer keeping the truck in place.

Be sure to remove any extra eights.... Their dangerous when hoisting.

I've got my HF heavy duty rubber chocks ready to go along with my HF 24" 6 ton jack stands and a HF, hi lift 24" 3 ton jack.
