Best Gas Mileage Ever!!

I know some have said that the digital indicator on the 4th Gens are off, but;

We recently returned from vacation. Drove from Lower Alabama, to Boise Idaho. Total of 10 states.
Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, Wyoming, Utah, Idaho.
Vehicle drove like a dream, very comfortable. The passengers consisted of my wife, oldest son (years old) and newest son (2 1/2 months old). DVD player was a god send for the oldest, and youngest took the trip very well, better than expected.

I traveled a little over 2300 miles one way.
My fuel meter read as follows:

City 17.2 MPH, Highway 27 MPG

Not bad, if I say so myself.

My vehicle is a 4th Gen 4Runner.

17.2 MPG city and 27 MPG Highway.

I cruised at 80 MPH, and utilized a Garmin iQue 3600 for navigation. Gave my wife more time to spend with the boys, than to have to follow along with the map.

Gave my oldest the map, so when he had questions of "where are we"? He could look it up. Each state was tabbed and labeled for his ease in finding states inside the atlas. Map worked good when we wanted to know the location of the next rest area along our route, iQue worked wonders when searching for gas stations, restourants, and hotels, along the route. I also plan to use it when flying around lower Alabama.

LOL! That heat wave sure make you think you did! Tell me about how many miles did you get on a full tank of gas on the rav4 b4 you fill up again??

I just completed a little trip with my 05 V8 4R, it was only a 400 mi trip one way, all highway. My readout was showing 27MPG also, at 70 - 80 MPH.
Now I know that wasn't correct, but if it was anywhere near that, damn! That's pretty darn good.

Just did a 865 mile roadtrip averaged 70-75 MPH and got about 22 calculated and with GPS MPH readings. Computer said 25.6.

was giving an average of 18.9. That distance to empty was
watched mostly since would run it down to about 30 or - till
stopped. Was curious how much gas was really left.

Does the 4 runner have instant mileage est

Whew... 27mpg. I think you should contact Toyota Corporate so they can relay this information to the Engine Development Lab because your 4runner is clearly an anomoly.

Of course, in your defense, you didn't say where those numbers came from, so I will conclude they came from the readout.

I just drove from VA to TX on my 05 4WD V8 (and back, all inside of a 10 day period) and the overall gas mileage I got using the following calculation...

Fill up tank (to the BRIM, I know, I know... perhaps I shouldn't have).

save all the of receipts.

Fill up tank (to the BRIM when I arrived).

My distance traveled divided by actual receipts for fuel showed that I achieved 17.2MPG.

Of course I had about 300lbs of load and drove 5-10 mph over the posted speed limits w/ the air conditioning on auto set at 72.

I have noticed a significant reduction in MPG when exceeding 75 MPH for an extended amount of time. Has anyone else tried to get MPG reading driving 85 MPH (155 miles than topped off to get gallons) compared to 70MPH (185 miles than topped of to get gallons). I got nearly a 4 MPG drop 21.5 to 17.5 calculated.

when my distance run down to 30 and I go fill it up it usually take about 19 gal. so their's about 4 gal. left in the big azz tank that never get use. I ran my 4R down to 00 distance before and their is still over 2 gal left in the tank when filling up!!!
