best hp gain?????? 95 4runner v6

ok so my family has owned 4runners as long as i can remember. i just got my first for myself and could not be happier!!! but like most im looking for a little more power. i have a harley and tow it from time to time. as im sure all you 4runner owners know at 75 mph hills kick off my cruse control and when im pulling the harley this is really a problem. so im looking into some power adders. all i can seam to find is cold air intakes, exhaust, and a few electronic control module. im looking at spending in the 300 range and want the best bang for my buck. so what info can you give me in helping me make up my mind.

for $300, i think you basically listed everything you can do, and only one of the listed.
either intake (seems like $150 +/-), header ($300~) or exhaust (~$300).

those numbers are just ballpark figs but i wouldnt expect to be able to get two of the three for 300 hund, but i may be wrong. good luck on your quest

you can make your own intake/snorkle for about 50$ or buy a CAI off ebay for around the same price. it will help a little, but hardly noticeable. headers for these trucks are the biggest increase but rather expensive. you can however hollow out the cat and chop off the stock muffler and put a nice free flowing one for around 50-80$. advance the timing to 12 degrees and get decent gas. this will create a noticeable increase... but barely. it wont turn it into a sports car by any means. just a few hp for hills.

thanks for all the tips. i did mod my air intake and im doing a tune up today. im looking into a magnaflow and 2 1/4 inch from cat back. i will also clean out my cat. thanks again. also if anyone has pics of a home made intake/snorkel i would love to see them

now a misfire

ok so i did a tune up spark plugs/wires/cap/rotor and a ac belt. now i have a misfire. i think its only 1 cylinder. i cant tell unless its under load so pulling of the plug wires at the cap did me no good at all. i also pulled the sparks to see if i might have broke one putting it in and i could not see even a small crack. im stumped. open for ideas if anyone has any.

so i just went with all 6 new plugs. i didnt want to deal with the burns from trying to test then change so i just did all 6 runs strong now!! cant wait tell i can lock it in 4 low and do some climbing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just changed my wires out today and my male to make end was bad and I got that fixed and it was still miss firing turns out 1 on the left was a broken wire along with the right so I changed all of the wires except for the one on the far back left because I could not reach it and man my truck runs so much better now !

I have a 94 that I have similar issue with. I spent 250 on a K&N,600 on Thorley headers, have yet to do my exhaust but I'm tossing the cat and doing a single 3" all the way back.

I'm looking into doing the Supra MAF swap and EGR delete, might want to look into those as well. Performance parts for the 3.slow aren't common and they are expensive. Most say that the gains aren't really worth the money either........

3" is gonna be way too big for that engine, itll probably lose power that way. id do a 2 1/4" hell 5-700hp cars run 2.5" exhaust

I thought so too, but my mechanic (who builds racing engines for NASCAR and SMART) suggested 3". I originally thought 2.5".

That would be good advice, for NASCAR.

I'd go with mandrel bent 2.25".

Anyway, to the OP, my advice is to get a Motorcycle that you can ride, instead of having to tow it everywhere..
