Best options for carrying extra fuel?

What is the best way to carry extra fuel? Roof rack? Rear rack? Any suggestions comments would be helpful...pics if you have them too. Thanks!

I bought a really really cheap rack for the receiver hitch. I will put my fuel containers within a sealed container so that they do not get dirty.

Roof rack would be great, but they can become expensive.

not to rain on the parade and I also am interested in carrying, putting extra fuel at that level on the back of your rig is an invitation for trouble if it gets hit by a rear car. mounting a rack on top is safest but then you have to calculate your top height to avoid hitting the cans. to eliminate both problems you can put heavy duty platic 3 gallon gas containers in a roof basket. at least IMHO.http://images.google.com/imgres?img...firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&sa=N

anytime you put a container in a position where a potential impact can occur. impact points are calculated by many insurance companies to determine anything from cost to risk to repair. putting a can of explosive fuel at an impact point (rear of vehicle) increases risk and potential costs to insurance companies. carrying a lower profile container on top of the vehicle reduces the chance of impact by the numbers and to sources such as low bridges or parking garages. with most SUV's the height of the increase would not be significant enough to elevate the chance of hitting an overhead crossing. (car washes city garages) would be the highest risk,,,,,,,,course if you have added fuel the last place you would be would be in a city garage..........clear as mud?

I would honestly go into the nearest outdoor gear shop and talk it over with them. since you are carrying a flammable it might be helpful. anytime you order flammable stuff on line you automatically encounter new friends.
