We'll probably never know if it's a 2 or 4WD. But the 4th gen (and maybe the 5th gen) would make a good pursuit vehicle. Really light on its feet, comforable and quick. That's if Toyota offered a steel wheeled, no-frills version with stiff springs, the bigger brakes and extra cooling.

I believe it's so that if you hit a curb at like 30mph it won't bend your rim and have your tire come off? Something like that...

Steel wheels tend to deform and have a better chance of still holding air whereas aluminium alloy wheels tend to crack and loose air when subjected to extremely hard impacts.

Kudos to LAPD on that one, could have ended bad for that lady and her kid, glad they were right on top of him. She almost forgot to get her kid!

4 bangers? LOL, that has nothing to do with anything. I'd rather try to get away from the cops in a car that can handle/accelerate/brake much better than a 4Runner.

A 4Runner is nothing but an overweight clumsy vehicle in a pursuit situation and unless the getaway plans include driving offroad (which might actually be a good idea to escape cops in regular cars), then the 4Runner wouldn't be my vehicle of choice.
