Best Place for Bluetooth Phone Mic

Just installed a JVC KWX-R810 HU. The phone mic is currently located on the drivers side pillar, up near the roof liner. Made a couple test calls that people told me didn't sound real good, echo y is how they described it.

Anyone know of a good spot for the mic? Maybe recommend a better mic?

Mine is located in the upper left corner of the windshield, connected to the roof liner. So pretty much the same spot as yours, and I never had any problems with people tryin to hear me. Maybe its the mic?

Since you have one in essentially the same spot, right now I suspect the mic itself is the problem. I can't believe with todays mic technology they can't get one to work great in that location/environment.

Update:

Over the weekend I was driving at highway speeds and couldn't be understood at all. I suspect a big part of the problem with the mic on the drivers pillar is that I also have WeatherTech in channel rain guards. The rain guards do cause some wind noise right where the mic was on the pillar. Today I moved the mic to the steering wheel column. The difference in sound quality is much improved in this location.
