Best place to EDIT in a thread: Top or Bottom

You ask a question at the start of a thread. Then get a dozen+ answers.
You wish to leave note on what you ended up doing per the thread.

Do you edit the original top post and say it there or add to the bottom of the thread?

Is there posting rules to follow???

Thank you

I usually update posts at the bottom, that way it bumps the thread and that way people might better see it.

I answered in your allocation thread.

There is no rule. Updating the thread with current information, either on top or at bottom, is most appreciated. I've been on a lot of sites where people ask questions and then never follow up with what they decided.

Depends. If it is an update/major change, I do another post. If just a minor post to edit content to something I just posted, I edit the post.

For instance, I edited this post to correct a spelling/grammatical error after 2-3 minutes.

IMHO and from reading 1000s of posts and topics it's best to edit both the original post and also add to the topic with the new info in a new post at the end of the topic/your last reply, that way you have covered all the bases and most everyone if not all will see the edit.

The reasoning for doing it this way is some only read the original post and then reply and miss all the other post after the original post, and then some only read the last few replies and never see the original post.
