Yeah. I’ll go first: it’s my opinion that unless you know you’re going to carry a rooftop tent, you give up a lot of flexibility with the flat top racks. When it’s time for me to get a rack I’ll go for a Gobi. But it’s not an easy decision. The flat top racks are lower profile, and so will permit entry into more underground parking. And that’s a huge plus. But there’s something about the Gobi — maybe that it’s one piece. (Those flat top racks are like having an erector set on your roof.) Or maybe that it’s so easy to strap stuff down to a basket.

But going back to the OP’s topic title, what makes the Sherpa better than similar offerings? All of the features mentioned in the description above are generic and could apply to any of the competitors. I mean, they’re all pretty much the same aren’t they? Maybe the side rails might go inside the brackets or outside the brackets. The real differences are whether they’re made of steel or aluminum, and how well the mounting system discourages leaks.

I bought the Sherpa Crestone and it's great so far. Rooftop tent showed up yesterday. Plan to put it on the weekend. Will update if there are any issues.

I’m already losing faith in Sherpa.
Ordered a Crestone directly from them on the 24th.
Of course it hasn’t shipped yet. The only communication has been conformation of the order.

I even emailed a question. You think they they told me a vendor had them I’m stock? Nope!!

That’s a ridiculous thought process. Why would Sherpa have any control or knowledge over what a vendor has in inventory. That’s on you for not doing your due diligence beforehand.

The fact that you a) can’t read and b) expect someone to spoon feed you the location of stock they don’t control is the problem here. Go buy a Gobi, I’m sure you’ll be happier.

I’m with Beach on this one. It’s frustrating to think that you have to wait for a manufacturer to fill your order while units sit unsold on a third-party vendor’s shelf. There are mechanisms available to let manufacturers keep track of their vendors’ stock. But failing that, Sherpa could at least publish a list of their vendors on their website.

I bought one regardless since i've been looking, Gobi wait times are atrocious.

I bought a 2021 TRD Pro and ended up sticking with the stock rack. I drilled some holes in the cross pieces and have a couple of Maxtrax mounted. It's not a great rack but good enough for my needs.
