Best repair/mod to your own rig while drinking

So, now that I've got my 15 posts, I can start a thread of my very own! And what I want to ask on my Sweet 16 is:

What's the best/coolest/worst/most obnoxious repair or mod that you've done to your rig while drinking? How much drinking had you done before/during/after the repair/mod? How did your "beer job" (or "tequila job" or whatever) turn out once you sobered up and drove it around the block?

It has to be your own rig, not someone else's! And no DUI stories!

This is amazing, and a great first thread! I am too much of a boyscout about that, so I always wait until after I'm done to crack the beers. Hoping some people come post with some super backwoods kinda shit!

Thanks atalarico, I was inspired by another off topic thread to post this story request. It'd be cool to read about some backwoods shit people have done! I'm usually too boy-scoutish too, but I've done a couple of baddies when there's been booze involved! So yeah, that's why, me too, usually beer comes after the repairs!

I'll get the stories started with my own "worst repair while drinking" - though it is probably pretty mild compared to some I've heard. For about the hundredth time I was changing the oil on my '99 RWD, had just drained it and R&R'd the filter. Did an undercarriage check, and I was letting the last of the oil drip out when I went inside to get a beer. It was hot out, this was the summer in Texas. I figured I was just about done, what the heck, why not have a beer while refilling the crankcase and checking the remaining fluids. (I usually wait till AFTER the repairs to grab a beer but like I said, it was freakin out outside.)

Got a beer, stayed inside for half an hour to cool off, got another beer, then went back outside to refill the oil. As I poured the 5th quart into the engine, I noticed this strange trickling noise... and then -facepalm- saw the drain plug sitting right there on top of the engine where I'd left it as a reminder to put the damn thing back in. Not that I've been doing oil changes since before I could (legally) drive or anything! Sheesh!

I had no more oil except for like 1 or 2 quarts I had in reserve. The rest of it was dribbling down the driveway, so I had to grab some cleanup supplies and then go beat myself up. I briefly considered pouring the old oil back in there to go get more oil, then decided not to since the beer had already fubar'ed my judgment once. I called a friend to get a ride to go get more oil. By then it was dark, so we just decided to go to the pub after we got the oil. I think he gave me shit for the next month nonstop! Next morning I had like 5 reminder notes all over the freakin place to remind me to reinstall the drain plug.

That's a good one!

I didn't do this, but it was a friend of mine, and there was no alcohol involved.

I was 15 and didn't have a license yet, but I had already spent some time around auto shops, helping my dad change oil, etc. So I had a good idea of what to do.

Enter D. D was an idiot know-it all. He spent most of his time telling you how you were wrong, how he was right, while actually being completely wrong.

Well he finally gets a car because he's a few months older than me. It comes time to change the oil, I told him to bring it by my house because I had all the tools and my Dad said we could use them. Well he tells me I don't know shit about working on cars, because I coudn't even drive, and he wouldn't let me touch his car period. I told him good luck.

The next week I asked him how the oil change went. He apparently pissed off his dad too, who refused to help him. Instead of draining the oil, he drained the trans fluid. Then he added 5 quarts of oil to the engine. It wouldn't even start, and was just blowing smoke when he turned the starter. So he then drained the 10 quarts of oil from the engine, refilled with new oil, then filled the trans with about 8 quarts of fluid. So because he was an ******* to me and his own dad, that oil change cost him well over 100 dollars.

I've done exactly this on my first 4Runner oil change on my 3rd gen. I had been changing oil for a decade prior too, so I had no excuse other than being a momentary moron. The best part is that I drove the ****ing thing about a block and immediately knew something was very very wrong. Oh, and then when I went to drain the oil, I had a little 5 or 6qt pan and realized 2qts in that there's 11 qts that'll be coming out. I was cleaning that up for weeks. Thankfully I did no damage to the engine as far as I could tell, and it was a lesson learned.

My Dad tells me that my Uncle did that to his early 90s Corvette too. Apparently it runs in my family.

I punched a hole in my ac condenser with a drill bit, releasing all the Freon into the garage.

The worst part about the whole thing is that I don’t drink, luckily the AC didn’t work before so I’m not missing much
