BEST replacement speakers for new 4Runner?

i was looking for some speakers for my 07 4runner and crutchfield.com suggested 4 Sony GT1625A.

my constraint was that i wanted to just pull the factory speakers out and use no amp. i have the 6 disc non-jbl audio. i'm not for sure how good these are, but it sounded like they would be easy to install.

Ok, well without an amp, your best bet would be some coaxil speakers, a decent brand woud be polk, alpine, boston acoustic, and focal. Those are the ones i like for coaxils.
Are you planning on going to a retailer or mom and pop shop to do the install?

components work, but they are underpowered, especially by factory stereo systems.
If your planning on amping the speakers, then yes, getting front components would be a good suggestion.
If your local best buy gave you a hard time, why not try out your local Circuit City?
I cant promise you their installers are top notch, every "roadshop" has diff skilled installers, however, i would go in, talk to the guys installing, and just ask some questions like youve asked me...Its usually pretty simple to figure out if someone knows what they are talking about.

Stick with Focal, MB Quart, Infinity Kappa, or Boston Acoustics.
Really if you want more clarity, a better Head Unit, and at least one good four channel amp, will be in order.
Even the BEST speakers can only reproduce as good of a signal as they are sent. The stock HU is pretty decent though, but I would at least add a 500W RMS 4 channel amp.
and stick with components up front, because the high frequency sounds get drowned out being down low on the door with the midbass speaker in a coaxial setup. Components in the rear would be nice too, but the tweets would be custom install since there is no factory place for them.
and stay away from 6X9's. Go round. If you want clean, low distortion sound, the oval shape of a 6X9's cone is very poor for rigidity. A round cone is inherently stronger and has much less distortion. Yeah it may have a bit less surface area, but it really will sound alot better when you're rocking out.

i like the stock HU because of the ASL feature that adjusts the volume according to your speed.
i'll take heed to what you guys have said, and add an amp for the for main door speakers. Any particular models i should be looking for in amps and component speakers?? Thanks
(btw, i can do without a subwoofer for now...)

boston acoustic, infinity, and polk make good amps IMO
you can get ones that will do appx 100w RMS x 4channel for decent money and not completley drain your wallet

Let's see, as for amps, Boston Acoustics are supposed to be the cat's ass though I've never owned one. Yet. I hate clarion stereos but I do have an amp from them, and it has taken alot of abuse and still works perfect so I cannot put down their amps from personal experience.
Whatever you get, make sure to read RMS output, not PEAK output. PEAK is a BS number, dont know why they ever used it as an advertising number in the first place, RMS is the real standard of measurement of an amps output. Peak can be a very bloated number for one pussified amp. And make sure you have high level inputs on your amp, meaning you can run the direct high level outputs from your stock head unit into the amp, instead of having to have an aftermarket head unit with low level RCA outputs to connect to the amp. I think most amps now come with both low level, and high level inputs though. Then you run your speaker wires from the amp, to the speakers.
