best shocks for street and highway ride

Honestly, I've tried that search engine for a few days now but it hasn't helped me. Either it's because I'm on my phone , or the information is not there, or i for some reason dont know how to use it, or the search engine SUCKS. But yeah, the "search" isn't answering my questions

My only question now is,
Will moogs 4x4 coils part #81041 work with my 2000 T4R 2wd sr5 3.4L. On amazon it says it will not fit my vehicle, it is also 4.9" longer then the #81043 moogs that do fit my stock 4runner. I figured that they would fit and give my 4runner maybe a 2" lift in the back from stock level? But that's just a guess. I had a toyota mechanic tell me to go with the 4x4 springs instead of the ones made for 2wd because they are stiffer and will provide a better ride. But I am trying to double check before I order them that they will indeed fit my truck. If it matters I will be pairing them with KYB KG54317 Gas-a-Just Gas Shock. Trying to save money and since I have a 2wd, I see no point in buying really nice and expensive coils and shocks..I drive 85% highway.....

My KYB Monomax experience:
I will be the first to admit that they do ride much more firmly than the shocks they replaced, but I have zero nose dive and she really does handle corners quite well! For the way I drive (there's this 30mph circle from one freeway to the next and I can do it comfortably with minimal body roll at 45-50 mph), I love it though. I tend to be more performance on road oriented though. In case you hadn't noticed my street tires instead of offroad tires, lol. I had a '09 challenger srt8 that had factory bilsteins and it rode very very nice! But My 4runner, though a bit stiffer, is good handling and that's what I need after having driven a heavy muscle car that actually handled very well for years! lol. So to each their own! Have had the KYB's on for about 3 years now and they are a little softer (about 30k miles) but they still allow me to drive mildly aggressive in corners like I like! ha

Thanks for sharing your experience! I'll be going with the gas-a-just kybs. Which are a step down from those monomax ones which are designed for heavier loads I believe... and I'm never towing anything so I don't see a point for me to get the monomaxes. Thanks for input though!

When I bought my 4runner it had Gabriel Ultra shocks and stock coil springs. It rode REALLY stiff. I changed out the coils to Moog ones and ride is now 'sporty', still on the stiff side but handles bumps well and corners flatter. Of course this is all subjective. I have a set of 5100s to put on that I will run on the lowest setting in the front for hopefully the best comfort and handling.
Also switching from Michilen M/S 2 tires to Cooper AT3s softened up the ride. The Michilens rode really rough for some reason.

Too bad you can't demo shocks like you can snow skis. I just want a good ride. Who doesn't? Following is a chronology (simpler for me and easier to read):
My Rig: 1999 4Runner LTD, supercharged, currently ~ 225K miles, second engine & drive train @ 203K, tall coils all around, original suspension, no lift, great rig, my second 4Runner, 3rd counting a totaled unit I inherited.
7/2011 installed a new set of Bilstein 4600's; tires were Dunlop AT's, ride seemed great
8/2013 hauled a heavy load, & boat, may have trashed the Bilsteins but didn't notice until later?
1/2014 motor/tranny swap
9/2014 new tires, Michelin XLT2's, ride wasn't the same as with the Dunlop's
I'm not sure I was ever that happy with the Bilstein 4600 series. They sat on my garage shelf new and in the box for 3 years before installation. Would they go bad on the shelf? (They were to be used on 2000 4Runner which was totaled in '09.) I think I began to notice a difference when I installed the Michelin's. Bilstein's are mush now.

Maybe I'll just have to go stock again or try the Bilstein 5100HD's. As a footnote, I did have Monroe's on installed by Les Schwab back in 2006 I think it was but they broke and I installed the Bilstein's myself.
