BEST Side Window Deflectors?

Hi Crew

The wife wants some side window deflectors so the rain doesnt drip into her 2003 4Runner V8 Sport Edition.

Im looking at the WeatherTech brand, and it looks like they DONT stick on via the 3M tape like most, but go up into the window frame itself. I could be wrong.

My question is this: Does anyone in here have a set that they absolutely love and would recommend? Any negative experiences to share that I could should stay away from?

i used weathertech, they work and look great, when they crack during my window going up, i emailed weathertech and they send me a new set, very nice, sucks that it cracked, this was on the front passenger side, on the rears it goes in channel, but they use some 3m tape on there too, the fronts have no tape, also when u get a set, make sure too look at the edges on the visor, it might be smooth or rough, so if its a lil rough, min was on my front, just carefully sand it smooth, or do nothing to it and email weathertech.
 
I have ventshade in-channels and only 1 complaint. I had to glue the rear portion of the the shade on the front windows to the outer seal so that the shade wouldnt catch the window and prevent it from going up all the way. for some reason it did not come with double sided tape on the back end. :wtf:

I think the word BEST should best be left out of the dictionary.

I, too, had considered a set of deflectors but also thought they just didn't "go" with the T4R's styling. But you're dealing with the wishes of your BETTER half, so do what's BEST and buy the BEST. That would be your BEST bet.

I BEST be gettin' back to work...
 
So the WeatherTech ones arent stuck to the exterior of the door frame? How do they attach?

If they go up and inside the window-grove, do they interfere with the window? I would imagine that if thats the case, then when you raise the window all the way up, the increased-stress on the window and window-motor is NOT good in the long-term....

I have heard some people complain about this after removing the in channel style. After removed the window doesn't seal up as well.
 
I had the AVS brand in my '98 4Runner and loved them. They were the in-channel type and I never had any problems. The only thing that I ever noticed upon close inspection was that my window tint film was slightly scratched up in the rear corners of the front windows... about 1/2" long just at the very corners. I never did anything like sand/polish them when I installed them though... that might've helped.

I'm considering the WeatherTech brand for my current 4Runner.

Those are overpriced, yes there good quality but you don't need to pay that much.

I got my in channels off of ebay. Cheap, they look awesome and are made very good, probably just as good as the weathertechs.

Stick with weathertech for floor liners.

They are made by wade

about being ghetto to each there own but I wouldn't go back to not using them and they look like the vehicle came with them. I think the stick on are a little tacky.

I vote for Wade too. Exactly the same as the Weathertech's but a lot cheaper.

I've had mine for at least a year or two now. Still going good.

Hmmm, I've been thinking of getting a set but this is a cause for concern (along with the rubbing of window tint).

Anyone here have this problem and/or solution?
 
I have my windows tinted and don't have any problems.

Do you plan to keep your visors on the 4runner the entire time that you own it? If so then it doesn't matter.

I've never heard of that, but if, for some reason, you decided to no longer use them I think that you can buy replacements for your window seals... if you had a problem.

Having owned the avs brand ones and the weathertech (both in channel) I think the the weathertechs are much nicer. They're more low profile and they just seem tougher

I had these on my Surfs. They are big, but you get used to them. Being bigger allows you to crack the window more. I had the type (weathertech, I think) that install by pushing them into the window frame. These never fit right (the windows would always "crack" and "thump" when you would open/close the windows........very annoying). These OEM shades obviously adhere to the outside window frame. If you can get over the price, go for it. I actually miss mine.
