Best sunroof wind deflector?

I've had a Toyota sunroof deflector since day (2001) one and it hasn't chipped, bent, scratched, broken or faded (it's a smoked out color). I'd go OEM personally but I haven't had any other experience, good or bad.
 
The Ebay one looks like the one that came stock on my 97 moon roof. It was solid enough, but I threw it away after a few years because all it did was block my view of the moon. I was also annoyed how it trapped water every time it rained or got washed, and it scratched my paint. With the roof slid back I still got buffetting at highway speeds and had to crack the rear windows, so I'm not sure what the purpose of this item is. Maybe it just looks cool from the outside. :lasercannon:
 
I had the AVS one and wasn't too happy with it. It stuck up a little too high and did nothing to reduce wind noise. I eventually sold it.
 
OEM is probably the best route when it comes to the moonroof deflector. I've had mine since day one and it still looks brand new and performs well. I think they were discontinued though, along with the OEM bug deflector for the hood. You might have to snag an OEM one from a parts yard or something.
 
NONE. unless you like noise and ear shattering buffeting. I ripped off my toyota brand and chucked it. silence and no ear drum shattering noise without it.

just my 2 cents, but I think you would be better of spending them bucks on something else.
 
I guess I'm one of the few who like my AVS version but no wind deflector actually keeps the buffeting down but it does help if you crack the back window and at slower speeds I can have the sunroof cracked open a bit and it keeps rain from coming in. I like it and it's been on there for 5 years now and is on there just as good as the day I put it there and it's just stuck on with 3M tape and it's a very sturdy piece that doesn't move in the wind and isn't going anywhere.

Factory one no longer made

I believe the AVS one will work fine but read up on how to mount it properly. It needs a double height tape at the sides to match the contour of the roof.

I bought one -I want to say 9004 is the model number but have not yet installed it -awaiting a nice warm day again....35.5" wide is what was suggested to me.

Ron,wait til it's above 70 to install the deflector since my friend did his in the low 60s and his isn't stuck down as well as mine.
 
You might want to check out Weathertech. I am looking to get one as well and my buddies here in Southern AZ that have them say they are the best.
 
When you say the best,in what way are they the best;they all are pretty much the same as far as deflection goes. I based my AVS purchase on price which was about $40.

Installation,durability, quiet....but they are not $40. $60 from Weathertech, but you may be able to find them on Ebay for a bit less.

looking to do this tomorrow-thanks Ron Maiden for the advice on temperature.

WeatherTech does not make one for a 99 4Runner according to a search I just did tonight -again.
 
Just seeing if anyone has had any luck with getting a clip on style wind deflector for their 3rd gen runner, no interested in AVS, thanks.
