I changed the oil on my mom's '99 Limited and noticed the oil filter is in an awkward place. I tried to get the filter off with as little oil as possible getting on the engine. What's the best way to get the filter off?

Your best bet is going through the wheel well. Here's a good write-up I used when I started changing my own oil. http://www.4runners.org/articles/oil/ I trust you added a quality oil like Mobil 1 or another equally worthy synthetic (and you used the correct weight as well). I have a '99 as well and its important to use quality synthetics on a "middle aged" engine. Good luck.

It was the first time I changed the oil on her car. She normally goes to the dealership but I had to change the tranny fluid so I went ahead and changed the oil. I used Mobil 1 5W-30 synthetic. We've had it since it was new and it only has 35K miles on it.
