best way to hook up a amp/sub

Party Mod does affect the line outs. When Party mod is on rear door speakers are turned off and more power goes to front speakers and speakers in rear tailgate. When Party mod is off, the rear doors are turned on. I would find the way you want it either on or off and then hook up your line out accordingly.
Meaning if you like Party mod on, leave it on and hook up line out to either front speakers or rear tailgate speakers.

It could be done by the amp. One of my previous cars had preouts from the deck to the amp. The amp was the one that controlled the sub.
As far as I know the stock deck only has 4 preouts FL, FR, RR, RL on it. I think the amp is controlling the distribution through the seven available speakers which could mean it does the switching for party mode.
Your best bet is to check the wiring diagram and repair manual which are available here.
I tried taping sub outs on a stock stereo once and it sounded terrible. You best best would be to tape one of the rear speaker with one of these NE-7V. There are other solutions that would work better for more money. These were good enough for me on a stock system.

Try this. Turn the ignition on or ACC. Temporarily connect the remote wire to the gray wire. The amp should power up and the sub should work. Then with everything on disconnect the remote wire. If the same symptoms as you posted above exist then it's an amp issue. If it turns off and the sub stops then...we'll have to try something else.

yes i have the usb option. The sub does turn off when the remote wire is disconnected. The reason the sub keeps playing after the radio goes off is because the fan on the radio is still going it then goes off (about 2-4 sec. after the radio). What i have read is the gray wire was the acc wire so i connected to that however i cant use that wire apparently. is there another location i can tap into?

There is a sky blue wire that connects to the usb area. Do you have my wiring diagram downloaded? What about the repair manual? If so I'll point you to the page numbers and area to look for another turn on wire to try.

Audio System (Built-in Type Amplifier) (2010 4Runner) .pdf on pg 5 try the sky blue line. Do you have a multimeter? If so test the line first and see if it stays on for a few seconds or not. If it does stay on for a few seconds, then we'll have to try something else.
As for the repair manual: navigate to--Audio/Visual/Telematics: AUDIO / VIDEO: AUDIO AND VISUAL SYSTEM: TERMINALS OF ECU (2010 4Runner)
Use section 1 and 4. It lists all the terminals and the condition they function in. Just refer to the wiring diagram for the appropriate terminals. You need to look for 12v (11-14v) acc condition.

Great...I couldn't figure out why that wire would still be getting power. I was thinking the wiring diagram was missing something. I traced the wiring from start to finish. Well I now now where it goes. Glad to see you figured it out.
