Beyond frustrated, tranny/engine issue

Long story short, I am at my wits end. My truck threw p2714.

We've replaced the faulty solenoid, and no dice. We've checked and checked and checked and we can't find anything else wrong with it. The interesting part is that the engine feels like it's not getting any power, even in neutral. You can put the pedal to the ground and it takes a good 3-4 seconds to even make it to 5000rpm.

We've been on the phone with Toyota and they're convinced I need a new transmission. However, when driving the car it shifts just fine under light power. As soon as you try to give it more power, it makes a whiny grinding noise - but it makes the same exact noise in neutral as well.

Anyone want to hazard a guess?

They might be right about it needing a new transmission, have you done pressure tests on it yet?

This statement is interesting:

Monitor Description
The ECM Calculates the amount of heat absorbed by the friction materialbased on the difference in revolution (clutch slippage) between the turbine and the output shaft. The ECM turns on the MIL and outputs this DTC when the amount of heat absorption exceeds the specified value.
When the shift solenoid valve SLT remains on, oil pressure goes down and clutch engagement force decreases.

Note- If you continue driving under these conditions, the clutch will burn out and the vehicle will no longer be drivable.​

Keep in mind when I say "we" I mean my mechanic and I. I have not been driving the car, except when we test drive it.

As to your point, the car will do it cold, and in neutral. Would the problem still exist in neutral??
