Tires for Winter (question for Thai)

I've read thru most of the posts on tire choices for the 4th gen runner. I have an 04, sport V8 4X4, with the Dunlops, which are ok for the time being, however, come winter they will have to be replaced. I am in the mtns. of western NC, and we can get some pretty fierce snow storms. I ran Mich. cross terr for several winters on an ML430 that I just turned in, and they were pretty good in the snow, if you were careful. The choices I have in mind are: Nokian Hakka SUV, which Nokian has just come out with in 265/65/17, but would require changing them out twice a year. Next would be a set of Cross terr. or Revos or the BFG. Of those last 3, which are the best in snow and ice. I'm pretty well versed on the Nokians.

With the BFG TA KO's we have no problem on snow or light off road and it has good on road traction. The tires have been on for about a year and a half and drove back to Texas in the winter (1700 miles one way) but they are showing no wear.

Out of the 3 choices that you have, ONLY BFG AT KO tires have the "snowflake" symbol. Apparently, this means that it can handle heavy winter. The Michelin CT's are good for mild-moderate winters. The REVOs...i don't have much experience with them in the winter. I have read good things about REVOs.

Unfortunately, if I recall correctly, the BFG doesn't come in an OEM size, but rather a 265/70/17. The good news is the Nokian comes in a 265/65/17 size, and carries the snowflake. I think I will probably go with them for the winter months, and when the Dunlops wear down to an unacceptable level, start research on a suitable replacement. Pirelli Scorpions might be a starting point.

I don't know much about Nokian tires. However, i do know that Pirelli Scorpions are very noisy. Pirelli make good sports car tires...that's about it.
