BF Goodrich Tires

I have a stock 2005 4WD V6 SR5 4Runner. Having read numerous threads on tire size I have seen different comments on tire size. I would like to change out my 265/65R17 stock Dunlops for 265/70R17 BF Goodrich tires. I have seen a few threads mentioning slight rubbing at full turn, and some saying no rubbing occurred with tires of that size.

Has anyone NOT had rubbing issues with 265/70R17 BF Goodrich tires on a 4th Gen 4WD 4Runner? Will a 265/70R17 BF Goodrich tire fit in the spare compartment?

Firestone MT's

I have a 2006 Sport, with the 17" rims. I have installed the
265/70/17 Firestone MT's. There is a very slight rub when you take a full hard front turn, but that's all. Most of the time no problem.

On the Spare, I tried to fit a MT under the truck. It will fit, however it is pushing hard against one of the suspension links which is directly behind the spare. I think it's the panhard rod, but not sure. Net. there was no play at all and when you are off road and need that part to articulate it was not going too very easily. I was worried about either bending the rod or rubbing on the tire.

I purchased a hitch mount spare holder from CBI offroad. Don't have it yet but hope to later this week.

If you are referring to BFG AT KO tires in 265/70/17 you will have no problem with them. I'll assume the long tral and rugged trail tires will also be an easy fit based on the less agressive tread/sidewall construction.

Rubbing with 265's is usually associated with more aggressive tires, such a mud terrain tires, there is usually more tread near the sidewall which causes the rub.

Thank you all for your advice. I'm a new member to this forum and already I can see what a great following it has. I'll probably keep one Dunlop as the spare. I also have a feeling I'll end up looking into Cornfed spacers at some point. I emailed Jason Burton about the 1" front spacer and he thought it would go well with the new tires. Has anyone installed these spacers? How involved of a job is it?

I should be getting the new BF Goodrich TA KO tires mounted tomorrow. I'm going with the 265/70R17C. I'm hoping to keep the factory metal stems that come on the rims. I know a lot of shops change out the stems.

You won't have a problem with that, considering the stem is part of the TPMS sensor. The shop will probably charge you for new seals, that's all.

Tires On

My BF Goodrich All Terrain TAs came in today. I am very happy with them so far. I'm surprised how nice they handle on road so far. They have a sturdy feel and I can tell they handle potholes like nothing. At absolute full turn the inner tread barely touched a flexible piece of plastic in on the rear part of the front wheel housing - pushed the plastic in gently with one finger and no rubbing.
