Bf goodrich vs bridgestone (rookie)

OK I think I have narrowed my tire choice down to the Bridgestone REVO 2 and the BF GOODRICH All Terrain T/A KO.
The Price is close but I'd like some info from those of you with a set or have tried both.

I'd like to know about MPG , Ride Quality, Snow,Rain Noise and any other info you'd like to share with a rookie.

My size is 265 70 R16 and I'll be putting them on the stock rims.

I used to live in Michigan, so I know the winter driving you deal with in Windsor. I live in Colorado now and I do a fair amount of off-road driving. I had a pair of Bridgestone Duelers (sp?) on my Range Rover and they were fine, but I did not do much off-road driving.

In Colorado the #1 tire is the BFG All Terrain K/O or the BFG Mud Terain tires. I do not have them but they will most likely be my next set of tires. Out here we dont just deal with the bad weather you and I do in Windsor / Michigan but we deal with it going up & down mountains and I regularly see 4x4's that have slid off a highway in the snow and down the mountain.

I have had a set of 265/75/16 BFG T/A KO's on my 4runner since October and they are FANTASTIC! I live in Portland Oregon so I am driving in the rain/snow all the time. As far as rain they handle really well. The sidewall is stiffer than my last toyo's so it helps with handling and ride quality as well. I also am driving up the mountain almost every weekend in powder/ice and they perform exceptional. They have the advantage of having the "Winter Traction Device" symbol on them so you are not required to chain up in adverse conditions.

They come in a 6ply and 10 ply version I believe. I have the 10 ply (ply=thickness of tire). My previous tire was 6 ply and when i switched to 10 ply it reduced my overall gas milage by 2 miles per gallon. If I could go back I would have gotten the 6 ply to save on gas.

Tread life is supposed to be really good too. I think BFG warranties the tire for 60,000 miles, but don't quote me.

Can't speak for off road abilities yet, I hear they preform well.

I had the AT KO's on my '97 runner - great tire for the first half of their life. Great in the snow, great off road, reasonably quiet, gas mileage was not much different than the stock tires. After the tread got past half way though, they were LOUD on the road. Snow and mud traction also fell off signficantly. These tires did hold up pretty well though, so that balances things out a bit. If I remember right, I got just over 40,000 miles out of a set, and they still had some life left on them when I sold the 4runner. I'm hard on tires, so for me, I was happy to see 40,000+ miles.

I currently have the REVO's on my '02 (not the AT2's, but the old version, I guess the AT 1's?). I am very disappointed in them. They get great write ups and many people love them, but I'm not impressed. They too were great when new, actually better than the BFG's when new...but quickly lost their appeal. I barely have 20,000 miles on them now and they only have 5-6/32nd's left on them, and they are starting to get loud too. They are cupped badly, despite the alignment being maintained regularly. From half tread on down, I have needed 4wd far too often in snow that just isn't deep/bad (I'm the type to not use 4wd very often at all, as I like to countersteer, ha!). I will be lucky to get another 5-6,000 miles out of these tires. Not impressed at all for the money spent. FWIW, gas mileage dropped off slightly with these, maybe 1 mpg, but not enough to really complain. I have the D range tires (8 ply I believe?).

I have a set of michelin ltx ms2's on my wife's '05 4runner. I cannot tell you how impressed I am by these tires, despite them being a less aggressive tire. The siping makes them as good or even better than most AT tires IN THE SNOW AND ICE (they won't cut in the mud), in my opinion. I don't do a lot of off roading anymore...probably putting these on my '02 next. They last forever, gas mileage is as good as you will get too.

By the way, I meticulously maintain all of my vehicles and rotate tires/do alignments regularly....so any abnormal tire wear would not be caused by maintenance issues.

If you are looking for snow performance, then you should also consider the Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs. I have yet to see anyone on here that hasn't loved them, and they are snowflake marked (certified snow tire, can legally be used without chains where chains are required) whereas the BFG AT's and the Revo 2's are not. Not to say they aren't good tires, they are great tires, but if you havn't, you should consider the duratracs too. I would say just look for the best deal between them and go for that. You'll probably be happy either way.

Every time I have had anything from Brigestone, they sucked. Badly.
I have 8 vehicles. 2 of them have the BFG All Terrains, 2 of them with BFG Radial TA's one with a BFG car tire ( don't remember the name ) Great tires, Love them all.
We don't get much snow down in Florida, so can't say how they do in that realm. I do know they do work well in the rain.
Did I mention the Brigstone tires suck? IMHO.

I love love love my BFG AT's. Had plenty of them in the past. Amazing off-road and the wear is great too. I 100% agree with the E load rating though. This is the first time I got them with an E rating (just didn't notice) and my mpg's took a good hit from it.

6 cars are in my family, one isn't worth mentioning cuz it's wrecked in my garage. Michelin makes the best tires.

99 4Runner - BFG A/T's with about 20k on them. Beautiful, I've gotten through thick mud and water deeper than the door sills with a 2WD and Limited Slip. I love them. Tread is still very deep. A bit of chunking here and there, but that's what happens when you haul ass offroad and slide and countersteer, etc. Not detrimental, tire still looks great.

04 4Runner - Michelin LTX - Almost out of tread but overall a great street tire.

04 Porsche Carrera 4S - Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 - Handles like a mofo!

02 Tacoma PreRunner - Also Michelin LTX.

05 Mercedes-Benz C230 - Michelin Pilot Sport All Season Plus - Also handle great in all weather!

Recently had a 95 Toyota van and an 87 Mercedes-Benz 560SEL, both with Michelin Energy tires.

Get yourself some BFG's. You won't be dissatisfied. I've only owned 2 other brands of tires. Hankook Dynamic RF02... pieces of $HIT! Goodyear Wrangler RT/S, horrible rain handling and bad treadwear. I have heard good about the Duratrac though, they look pretty badass.

I've had a lot of exeprience on BFGs and they are a great off road tire but so-so when they hit the pavement compared to my previous set of Nittos and my current Duratracs.

BFGs have poor dry grip and their resistance to hydroplaning isn't really good and offers no warning when they do begin to let go unlike my Goodyears which have much better road feel than the BFGs.

You're correct, most BFG AT's do have the snowflake symbol, but apparently not all of them do, so check that when you get yours. I don't see a pattern in which ones are rated, and which aren't, but I am guessing that the design is just barely over the line for qualification, and some combinations of aspect and diameter didn't quite make it.
