BFG A/T KO Tires

Few questions in regards to the BFG A/T KO tires.

I see people refer to the BFG A/T with "KO" at the end. What does "KO" mean? and is the difference between BFG A/T and BFG A/T KO?

The size I will be buying is P265/65R17, I got quoted $1150 + mount/bal from Firestone, is this the average price for this size tire? or should I look somewhere else? Les Schuab maybe?

I don't off-road but I am in a lot of snow during the winter, it rains here every so often but not much. It is important to me that I get a tire that lasts long and gives me superior use. I drive about 35 miles a day to and from work, so gas millage is important as well. Should I be looking into something else besides BFG A/T?

For your uses the BFGs are too pricey and IMO opinion and experiences are a so-so street tire especially in the wet and there's better choices for what it sounds like you need.

Yokohama AT/S,Bridgestone Revos,Hankook dynopro or even a set of nitto TGs would be all better choices.

I don't think BFG makes a non "KO" AT now, just the KO.

I use Yoko tires on my track car and high performance street car however, they make a terrible truck tire. My experience is they have soft side walls and do the "knobby walk" at highway speeds.

The BFG KO is an awesome tire. I use them as snow tires and love them. They last much longer than every other tire and are very durable. They will ride rougher than some of the other tires but that is because the sidewall is stiffer and the rubber is a bit harder. They make my truck much more stable when towing my rack car.

With the exception of the Nitto I've tried all the tires listed above, including the General AT, and none are exceptionally better than the KO on the street or in the rain. The KO's are noisier than a tire with a less agressive tread but I've learned to live with it as it's not much louder than the normal wind noise from a T4R.

Yes, they are a bit more expensive than others. Last November I paid $911 out the door at Tire Barn for 4 of the 265/70/17 - not sure how that would compare to the 265/65/17. I usually get better pricing because I buy a lot of tires from these guys.

The KO may be more tire than you need but you will not be disappointed.

BFGs wear hard and thus their dry grip is so-so and their hydroplane resistance is poor (defined water evac channels are absent) and they tend to slide on wet pavement much more than any of the tires I've driven on and I've driven on several sets of BFGs on older Toyota pickups and a couple of 3rd gens and even a 4th gen. Even my Duratracs are much better on the street than the BFGs;BFGs shine off road but when the pavement starts the BFGs are simply an average tire.
I really suggest the Nittos for daily driver duties,solid in the snow and rain and can handle the ocassional trail with no problems and won't kill your wallet.

Actually those are the tires that come stock on most of the 4th gens and I don't read alot of good things about them on these forums but no personal experience.

If you want a good tire with the off-road look that will do well in the snow and rain and still perform well on the road look into good year's Duratrac. It is an all terrain tire so it probably won't ride as nice as a more traditional road tire but if you do ever venture off road or when you end up in the messy weather they will do a very good job.

The BFG AT in that size is a LT series tire with a 10 ply sidewall. Probably overkill for what you need. Also they are expensive. I do run the BFG AT KO's on my silverado and I like them. I haven't experienced any of the above mentioned wet and dry traction concerns with the BFG's (this is about the 7th set I've owned, various trucks over the years). The last set lasted to 85k miles. Still had some life left but I knew winter was coming (I thought winter was coming, very little snow so far). The one thing I don't like about the BFG's is the fact that some require a lot of weight to balance and even then some just don't balance.

That being said, I am currently trying a set of Hankook Dynapro ATm on the 4runner. Almost 10k miles and so far I do like them.
