BFG A/T KOs vs. Hankook Dynapros

After my lift gets installed im looking at getting 285/65/18s, but i dont know how both tires compare. The Hankooks are 206 a tire and the BFGs are 285, they both are pretty aggressive looking tires, but im not sure how both stack up as to handling, offroad performance, and more importantly duration. In your alls opinion whats a better tire overall?

Here's a vote for the Dynapro's. I'm seeing them more and more around the DFW area and they're real nice looking. Almost the same thing as the Terra Grappler's except w/o the cheesy lightning bolts.

If you're a straight pavement pounder, go for the Dynapro's. They should weigh less in the same sizes as BFG. I've had BFG's, they're great tires, but if you're not going to wheel then there's no point, i think, other than looks. The Dynapro's look plenty "aggresive" IMO, a lot more so than the Nitto's.

I'd trust my Nittos more off road than the Hankooks even with the cheesey lightning bolts.:trophy:
Nittos are better on-road then the BFGs would ever hope to be and really only are marginally better off road than my Nittos if at all in my experiences with both on my Toyota trucks.

My Gosh, you sound like a Nitto salesman! Nitto TG is a highway tire with more aggressive tread design, just like Bridgestone REVOs and Michelin LTX series. Nothing more, nothing less. No more protection off-road than these highway-bias tires.

Now, the Trail Grappler looks like a winner...and i may even pick it over BFG AT KO. And notice, Nitto is getting away from their cheesy flames/lightning bolts designs!

In general, i do not buy from a small company. So, i would pick BFG if those two are your ONLY choices. However, depending on your needs, there is a bunch of other tires out there!

Hey,I'm just telling it like it is and from somebody who has a lot of miles on both BFGs and Nittos I feel like I have a valid opinion and and over the last 4 years and 50k miles the nittos haven't left me with any problems but those new Nittos are sweet but a bit much for a daily driver like my truck. I do love those new Nittos.

i'll agree w/ you on all that. nitto's are the way to go, but I didn't want to try and change his mind since he didn't list them as an option. i know everyone has a friend who "once had this/that", but still...i know 3 people who have them and like the Terra Grappler's, all in size 285/75/16's.

still don't like the bolts haha

good call on the trail grappler's, slick lookin' tire. now let's see if they make them in decent sizes w/ bearable ply ratings.

Whether you've ever heard of Hankook or not, it's a huge outfit with the goal of making American consumers realize that it makes premium tires.

Originally I was skeptical about Hankook, but I've always kept an eye on their products. A recent review in C&D rated a premium performance tire very highly. I believe 'kook are doing their homework.

The tread looks like a good all terrain tire: Center rib for on road stability, sipes for all weather tracation and strong shoulder and lugs for durability. All this for a competitive price.

Hankook is the 8th largest tire mfr in the world. (I suppose thats better than being the 142nd fastest gun in the West! )

Thanks for all your input, from what ive been reading the BFGs may be a bit overrated, and the Hankooks a bit underated. But still have a lot of homework to do. Thanks again for all your help and input.

Talking about the Trail Grappler?

If so then I heard they are only coming out in three sizes to begin with, none of which would fit a stock 4runner. I think it's going to be after January before they have a large selection of sizes.

Tough call between the BFG and the 'kooks. I'm running the BFGs on my silverado now for 75,000+ miles and their still going. Although it hasn't been all good though. They need constant rebalancing. Haven't punctured one yet offroad. I see a lot more of the Hankooks now and they balance with less weight it seems. A little more sidewall bulge than I like. I used to say go with the one made in the US but we drive jap vehicles anyway. Save some dough go with the 'kooks.

Hankook does make some good tires but I'm a bit leary of trying something new when I've had a great 4+ years on my TGs and never had any balancing issues and have held up to a fair amount of off road trips and over 45,000 of my agressive on-road driving and did well in the white stuff through 4 winters.
The Nittos will run me about $750 out the door at Discount.
