Hi, i tried searching but couldn't really find what i was looking for. I want to get some new tires this week but i am still trying to decide whether to go with the BFGs or the Revos. I know the Revos would probably suit me better but i really like the look of the BFGs more. The only thing i am concerned about is how everyone says the BFGs do not perform as well as the Revos in the rain. I live in Southern California and we get some rain every year. I just wanted to ask how really bad the BFGs are in the rain compared to the stock Dunlops. All the comparisons i see are between the BFGs and the Revos. I haven't had Revos yet so i wouldn't know how they compare. Are the BFGs so bad that it wouldn't be too safe to drive in the rain at all? I just saw a post somewhere about somebody saying if your driving in the rain with BFGs, then you mind as well be driving with slicks on. Can someone with more tire experience help me choose. Thanks.

I think some people exagerrate a bit much on the internet.
Some people say the Dunlops are soo horrible, but there are plenty of people who have been on them for 30K+, 50k+ and 60k+ miles. These people didn't drive their trucks off the side of a canyon because their stock dunlops were so slick. Some of the members must drive their vehicles like professional rally drivers the way they describe the performance of their tires.
Just my opinion...

Id like to hear some opinions too.. the "wet performance" factor (hard cornering, hydroplaning) is whats holding me back from the BFG's.. we get our fair share of rain here, and in the winter the roads are pretty much wet/slushy all the time because of the salt.. my dueler H/T's do fine. are the AT/KO's WORSE?
BFG At , I thought they were geat all around true , tough, all-terrain tire. The only draw back it they are a little slicker in the rain than some tire's and yet better than some tire's , off road they really shine, they look awsome and in snow they perform exceptional IMO. I took my stock donlops off the first day I had my 4R , mainly because I could get credit for them and wanted to step up to a bigger size 265/70/17 from the 265/65/17.
In all honesty I'm sure the Donlops are not that, bad , but some may differ and you can probably find alot of info if you search for Donlops here.
I have Revos on mine now and though a moderate all- terrain IMO , they are a great tire for road and wet weather and light snow. I did notice however when our road were hard snow packed after a snow storm they pretty much sucked for what light snow sluch salt ect and road manner's they are great. Might be one to consider , also excellent in rain , better there than BFG AT , but not nearly as good looking as BFG AT......lol

I got BFG A/Tko's for winter but I've also had no problem with them in the rain or slush. They have more grip than the Dunflops but I wouldn't get them as a daily driver tire because of the noise (if that is a concern to you.) From the situation you describe I would look at the Michelin CT.

I've never found them to be noisy really .
My Revos are not exactly super quiet either , but I must say for a daily driver , ride comfort the Revos are nice , but I can still hear them . I drive 25-27k miles per year so the nice ride of the "P" rated Revo is nice in that respect.
The BFG is a "C" rated tire , so it will be heavier and more aggressive tread so it will be noisier , but all in all they are pretty quiet.
I cant remember if the Donlops were noisy since I only put 50 miles on them....lol

Check out Costco and see their prices, they were able to beat tirerack.com's prices for me and I didn't have to pay any shipping fees! The only PITA is that Costco won't mount/balance tires that are larger/smaller than OEM.
So I had to pick them up from Costco take them to another shop to get the mounted/balanced (anything over a 31" tire is a bitch to balance, so it usually costs quite a bit more)...like I said, all that for under 800.00...

I put BFG AT's on my 4Runner last January. I live in Dallas and drive about 20,000 miles a year so the BFG was/is probably overkill but they sure look darn cool. I never had any problems with the Dunlops -- I don't do much offroading -- and haven't had any problems with the BFG's in rain, ice, or slush -- but I have a V8 4wd so the awd and VSC pretty much eliminate any and all slipping. They are a little noisier and stiffer than the Dunlops but it's a truck not a minivan. I do rotate them, including the spare, every 5,000 miles.
I purchased 5 and it cost me right at $1,000 at Discount Tire.

yup i went with 265/70/17 so that it will fit in the spare. At first i wanted to go with bigger tires maybe 285s but i didn't want to deal with the spare and all the rubbing and trimming. So i just ended up with the 265s. Paid for them today. Gonna have them put on tomorrow morning.
