I've never had KM1's but i will tell you this KM2's are the best tire i have ever had. I will be buying them again.

I have had two sets of KM1s and I am on my third set of KM2s, and I can honestly say the KM2s are much better. They are better on the road, they wear more evenly and they are better in mud and rocks. I think the KM2 rocks and will not be changing my tire choice anytime soon.

how is road noise and low speed handling of the KM2's? Is this a good tire for a DD?

you notice the lugs audibly and physically at low speeds (~5 mph), but at speed I barely notice them. With the radio on I dont notice them at all. They are on my DD and I will be replacing them with more KM2s when they wear out.

The original BFG MTs had thin side walls, they seemed pretty good otherwise. If the KM2s have a thicker sidewall than they would probably be a good choice if you plan on using it on and off-road.

Im thinking of getting the 255/80r17 size of the km2's for my DD, but seeing as though i drive the T4R about 15K miles a year, i am worried if i will get tired of having such an aggresive tread. mainly the noise and handeling are my concerns.
