BFGoodrich BAJA TA

Seen some BFGoodrich Baja TA's being delivered to a military motor pool installation on Friday. Had a quick chance to look at them and remember there size was 37x??x16". They were really nice lookin tires and looked similar to a mud tire.

Further searching on the internet didn't reveal much except there are not very many tire sizes and they are not made on-road use?? Which doesn't make sense because the motor pool they were being delivered too is for a stateside reserve unit and most likely for road use, supposed to have a pretty tough sidewall also as they were made for desert racing.

Anyone seen these tires around. Seems like they would be an exceptional tire if they are available. They looked they really aggressive and would make a really great mud tire.

they're a great tire for the application. Desert.

they are 37 12.5 IIRC

They're a race tire, so not technically legal for on road use, that doesn't apply to military vehicles though.

Just about every unit that has HMMWVs has those tires

I'd love to see them on a 4Runner!

Yea, they are a nice looking tire, and purportedly have heavy duty sidewall construction. The vehicles the reserve unit is putting those on are not getting changed out due to mileage but more likely due to the age.

Definitely like the large self cleaning lugs. All we have here in Florida is swamps and sugar sand, no rock crawling here. the tread pattern looks like it would be great for our use. Would definitely have to come in a lighter carcass for use on a 4Runner though.

Yes they ride little rough and very heavy but not to bad...better for a humvee application as these suckers have lots of torque and could care less about mpg. The side walls are made of kevlar. Dont think they are illegal on road...im Stationed in Fort Bragg and our DRMO sells them for super cheap.

Military Baja T/A tires are not the same as Baja T/A race tires. Mil spec versions are typically much heavier and all measure 37x12.50x16.5, race tires were not made in a 16.5” wheel version. The earlier versions of the military tire shared the tread pattern with the original Baja T/A race tire, the later version has its own unique tread pattern.

IMHO they arent worth it unless you can find some race take offs for a good price. IIRC they run a around 1000 a tire since they are kevlar as well. They are great tire but just not worth the price.
