Big Bear Run

Sorry I have been absent, was back in Pittsburgh focusing on my mom and dad...and snuck away for 3 days to Welcome to train with some SF and SWAT dudes....

Im down for Saturday.....not sure where that is but will do a mapquest and hopefully my old school GPS can find it.

Will anyone be coming from South Bay area of LA? I live in Manhattan Beach, if anyone was leaving from this area and wanted to drive up together that would be cool..

Looking like I need to get my sorry butt in bed super early Friday night since it might be 2 hour drive and wheeling starts 7:30am

Forgive me for being a total newbie.....what will I need to bring? Never wheeled this Yota, I could bring my Jeep and be "safe" knowing I can crawl most trails even with no skill since its geared with lockers at both ends, skids, sliders, winch, and bumpers...BUT I want to become a Yota guy too, and I think Id enjoy the 2 hour drive more in the 4runner!!

So just make sure I have clothes and food, water etc for a full day, fill up gas tank and meet you guys at that location?

And...just to be clear, a rookie in a 5 speed stick, with running boards and minor lift, can hang on these trails? I do have the rear locker on my 4runner which is one reason I bought it, but have never used it yet...

Thanks!!!

Before we go friday can we share cell #s with whomever is confirmed to keep in touch the morning of?

Bluecollar I'm in Torrance. Sorry won't be able to caravan up there with you. Probably gonna stay at the inlaws place out in Fontana Friday night. It will probably be an hour drive up from there. Maybe I'll see you on the road on the way up. Btw what color is your 4r? This way I can keep an eye out for you around town and on the way up there.

BCJ the meet-up is at 7:30. We probably wont head out till 8:30. Its at a gas station so if u want to top off ur tank there, u can. As far as ur 4RNR goes u shouldn't have any problems. Hell u got a rear locker(I don't). U can easily unbolt ur running boards if concerned about body damage(possible). To get there is easy. Just take the 210 East all the way to the 330/running springs. At Running Springs it merges into the 18. From that point its just a couple miles up the road from there. I'll PM u my cell# so we can talk and discuss any ?s u might have.

I may be down for this. Just have my Icon stage one installed today and can't wait to see what it can do. For sure day trip for me though if I'm going.

Congrats on your lift! How do you like it so far?

How hard is this trail you guys are planning to run, on a 1-10 scale? 10 being extreme (need to be able to disconnect sway bar extreme).

I have a stock limited 4X4, with a little more clearance (removed rocker panels).

Yo Danny, it's money well spent. Both functional and looks good. The ride and steering is much better now. Maybe we will trade trucks for a bit when we meet to see how big of a difference.

Well Danny its a bit hard to say. All the trails are either Green Circle, say 1,2,3 and Blue Square anywhere from 4 to 7, however it being right after the thaw, they might be a little tougher. They didn't get a lot of snow this year so it shouldn't be too bad. There are a bunch of alternate easier routes if the Blue trails prove too rugged but u should be just fine.

dannyl you should be fine. You did more technical stuff at cleghorn when you were fully stock. This run should be a lot easier. Come out and enjoy the views of big bear. Track the run we do and you can do this run again on a later date with other buddies or if you wanna go venture out by yourself.

Yea that sounds great!!

What are the chances you guys will be running "John Bull and Gold Mtn"
Your original post included those runs and would rather not veer off on my own lol if you guys plan on that. Wouldn't want to stop anyone either.

Yo Keemo - how's it going?!
You've been through all these runs before? You sure about me w/ no lift?
Almost lost it last time on Pilot Rock due to mud, so that kind of shook some reality into me. How is it compared to pilot rock?

danny from what I remember it is pretty mellow. Don't worry about JB or GM. I don't plan on doing any of that stuff either. I'll have the wife and my boy with me. Last time we were up in big bear there was still a good amout of ice that shook the wife up pretty good due to another member almost sliding off the edge. We went in jan/feb of "2012" I believe when that happened. If we end up doing jacoby that will be up to you if you wanna do that trail or not. Deekoi did that trail at stock height with his truck. I don't know what exact route we are taking but there are a lot of trails that you can go around all that stuff.

We wont be doing JohnBull or Gold Mtn. Ive done DishPanSprings in my stock 4RNRopen diffs and 31" BFG ATs. That's a black diamond although I ran it East to West which is much easier since u got gravity on ur side(downhill).

I'm busy on Saturday, so I can't make it out. But I'll do my best to come out next time.
Make sure to take lots of photos for us!

Thanks QC for leading today. It was a fun run with everyone. There seemed to be a lot of oh $*!t moments while on that black diamond trail. Good thing about it is, we made it through without breaking anything and a little bit of carnage. I just have to recover from today's adventure. I'll post up whatever I have as soon as I get it down loaded.
