IIR, BR said the 3/16" added about 15lbs total, versus using 1/8'. I don't really have a way to weigh it (@Bandit Runner may chime in), but guess the whole thing weighs 115 -120lbs. The fact that it doesn't vibrate and is quiet, is worth the extra weight to me.

According to the CAD, it weighs a little more than that:
Bumper = 125 pounds
Passenger side swing-out = 30 pounds
Driver side swing-out = 45 pounds

I had Bandit design my bumper just like that. I'm planning on a few tweaks when I get to build it this winter. Awesome to see it build and on a truck though. Looks like you did a great job.

Yup. Yours was the first swing-out design. That paved the way for all the following designs. Thanks for pushing me to do it.

around . How much $ do you think you have invested ( besides your own valuable labor ) ? By the way, love your choice of tire size ( 235/85R16 ).

-$175.57 for 3/16" plate cut on CNC plasma table (material and machining)
-$116.02 McMaster Carr parts ie: Grade 8 bolts and nuts for swing outs, bronze bushings, weld in pull pins, stainless steel screws, etc.
-$72.78 for latch (worth every penny)
-150.00 powder coating
----------------------
-$718.40 total.

I know now, I could have saved $ on the steel, if I would have been patient and bought from the remnant rack at local steel supplier. This being my first rodeo....I didn't know that. Still worth every penny to me!

Having built numerous bumpers myself, I think you did very well on costs. I didn't see the cost of plans in that list though. Still, one off bumpers are expensive, I see people posting that you could do it all for $200, they are full of it. Now get building the next project!

Thanks IBall. I got a slight discount on plans (being one of the first designs), so I intentionally omitted the cost.

I didn't take on this project with the idea of saving tons on money, but wanted to build a bumper just the way I wanted it, and to challenge myself. :bounce:

Damn I really need to get myself into welding, this amount of shit people have created on here is crazy. What kind of welder do you have?

I work at a welding/fab shop and we share the building with a welder repair business. We have a miller 35 and a miller 200 from the 80's both work really good and are workhorses. They've been working longer then I've been alive.

I saw a miller 35 on the c-list last year for $700. I asked the repair guys if it is a good machine. They said it'll run forever because there aren't any circuit boards in it and if something does break its simple to fix.

They are 220volt machines. my 2cents. happy with mine we both came to life in 1989

Bumper looks great man! Always impressed when someone takes the time to build there own stuff, having set plans always helps a ton! When I built my rear bumper, I had to figure it out as I went, should have bought the plans and saved myself a ton of time!
