Another one of my bikes. A custom built 2001 Schwinn Straight 8. It's considered a DownHill racing bike, but I am a recreational rider. I built this up last Spring '03 with a enw 2001 frame, and everything else the best I could buy 2003.I have 6 rides on Vermont Ski areas so far. Mt Snow and Killington. It's a 49.5 pound beast, but 8+ inches of suspension (front and back) can't hurt!! In fact I think it has more travel than my 4runner LOL!! It cost $3200 to build. Consider that it used to cost $5499 as a new complete bike in 2001.

I should ride it more but the lift costs $35 for the day and it's a 2 hour drive.

Road Bike Porn

Last one, least ridden bike I own. New in late 2002. 80 miles maybe since then. I thought I was going to ride road to work to get into shape. NOT. Road riding is boring and more dangerous than off road MTB'ing around here. Traffic is nutz. I can't stand to parrt with it for some reason. It looks nice on the wall.

Airborne Zeppelin Titanium frame. Ultegra grouppo. 18 pounds with pedals. Not the lightest bike, but real comfy, no aluminum buzzzz.

Nice bikes. What wheelset do you have on the Schwinn. Are those tubeless?

The rear hub is an EDCO DH unit with a solid 15mm through axle. The front hub is a MArzocchi 20mm solid through axle. (No fixing flats on the mountain!!) Both rims are SUN Doublewide rims, front 26" rear 24". Spokes are 14 gage straight. I had them laced by the LBS.

They aren't tubeless. The DH tubes weigh about the same as a standard 26" XC tire, LOL!! They are 1/8" thick. I have tubeless on the Stumpy, and I love them, but I don't think I could ride 20psi on the DH bike with tubeless, they would rip of the bead. So the tires are Nokian Gazzoloddi Jr. 2.6" wide, steel wire bead.

The frame will fit 3.0" tires, but that's overkill. I don't do drops over 2 feet (yet) but will jump 3-4 feet when rolling with speed. Scary to me. Only about 6 rides on the DH bike so far. I haven't had it out yet this year.

I know what you mean - some drivers don't even bother moving over a bit to give you some room. I try to ride (road bike) early in the morning (around 5:30am) - to avoid too much traffic.
