Hey any mountain bikers out here with a suggestion for a bike rack that attaches to factory mounts/racks. I got a little confused looking at the yakima website. seems like everything onliy fits with their round bars. any suggestions would be cool

OK so I ended uo getting the yakima kingpin 4, hitch mounted rack. I usually ride with 3 to 4 others so it should work. I still would like to get atleast 1 roof mounted rack for when I ride solo

You will enjoy the hitch rack, I have been using one for several years, they are so easy to transport bikes with. they also serve as a bike stand when you need to do work...

don't get a yakima roof rack. The round bars are the dumbest piece of engineering. Get thule squareish bars. I had some pieces for my kayak and they would constantly slide around on the round bars on my civic. The grippers work better on my factory 4runner rack.

I don't bother with roof-mounted carriers... PITA to lift a muddy bike onto the roof.

I use a hitch-mount platform carrier -- the Sportrack 2EZ (or Xport Flatbed 2, the Performance Bike version). I'd love to get a Thule T2 but cannot justify the extortionate price.

Stay away from hitch-mount carriers that support the bike by its top tube IMO, especially if you have a full-suspension rig.

Thanks for all the replies. I still want atleast 1 roof mounted rack. I will looking into the thule square bar holders, I am not super fond of the yakima round bars but figured I would keep in the family since I have the hitch. I just don't perfer to load 1 bike on the hitch, and I kind of don't want to put it inside and eff up the interior.

Once again though thanks for all the replies
