Thanks, Ill have to check that out. Also, I havent heard much about the pros and cons of the spring lift kits. The one I linked here costs only a little more than the spacer kits, but I would imagine the aftermarket spring would perform better than the stock spring coupled with spacers.

To me this route seems to be a good compromise between cheap spacers and expensive coilovers. Ive done all my research on spacer lifts, was about to order the daystar 2.5" preload/topout kit and now I see 2 new options I hadnt even looked at before.

Thanks for the info, once again. Im now leaning towards a combination of OME spring and a small topout spacer. My only remaining question is, do you need new shocks with the increased spring height of the OME's? I plan on getting some bilsteins later on, but it would be great if I could do stuff in stages as I get the money. For now Id just like to level it, then get bigger/badder tires, new shocks. But for now, would the stock shocks be too short or would they work alright? Thanks again!

You could probably get away with some 883 front springs and a small topout spacer. I am sure it's not recommended, I've read that it's been done. I read that on the internet though so take it with a grain of salt.

There's no question skipping the spacers and going for a 884 or 885 with new shocks is a better choice but if money is tight... What's hard to know is if you're better off with the old style Daystar 2.5/1.5 or some odd combo of springs & spacers mixed with stock shocks. I might go with 5100's on the front, Daystar 1.5 in the rear and then go full OME way down the road.

No, I did that on Oct 5th. I know the date because it's my dog's b-day and I actually felt bad about messing with the T4R instead of taking him to the park. I made it up to him the next day:D

There were no replies until nysimonsez saw it yesterday...

Well, the lift will be mostly cosmetic, but Im willing to spend an extra couple hundred if I get perfomance out of it, or more importantly, I don't LOSE performance. My last truck was a dodge ram. I did a 2.5" spacer lift and the thing drove like shit. Tried new shocks, but eventually just got used to it. Anyways, this 4runner is my first nice car (first vehicle of mine to cost over $5,000) and I want to keep it the luxurious beast that it is. Im just weary of doing a spacer lift after my experience with the Ram. Im shooting for around a 2" lift, as I will want to eventually throw some 265/70/R17's on it, when my stock tires wear out. Would the medium load OME springs stiffen the ride as well? Im considering getting just light duty OME springs as an alternative to a spacer, then go from there if I need more lift. Ive seen conflicting info regarding how much that will lift a v6. What do you guys think? Thanks for your input!
 
Most seem to say OME or coilover is the way to go. Also the complaints about spacer lifts and ride quality begin with 3/2's. Most who have 2/1 or less have no appreciable ride degradation. The one exception for bigger than 2/1 seems to be the old style Daystar 2.5/1.5.

I don't think you'll end up in the same box as your Dodge. Use a 2/1, old style Daystar 2.5/1.5 or a spring lift and you'll be happy. If you really want 2.5+ OME is your best bet.

I have the older daystar kit on my 08 UR....it is amazing! Very, very little difference in ride quality....but you do here a loud thud when you go over big bumps or curbs from the rear. It's common. But I love the look and ride! If I didn't have xreas....I'd have gone OME! But....I'm just waiting to ride out my warranty...then we'll see how the xreas hold up. GL on your choice.
 
Personally I'd go with a 2/1 spacer lift. Also plenty of people off road with them and don't have an issue.

The other thing is the old Daystar had top out & preload spacers , the current kit's DO NOT from what I've heard.

The best thing for wanting to do what you want is you don't have Xreas which leaves your options wide open to do what ever you want ... thats nice.

I think it was NJRunner11 that just went through this. You can order a Daystar either way, 'new style' (not the best choice) or the 'old style' that many like. Falls' is correct, if you don't shop you may get the new style. You have to be very clear about which kit you want. Another factor is the Daystar preserves the rear, foam bumpstop in the spring. As I understand it you cut these bumpstops with other spacer lifts.

I put the bilstein adjustable on my 2004 v-8 4x4 limtied.

It has worked flawlessly...I adjusted all the way up for full 2.5" lift in front and put on All-Pro 2" rear spacers...still maintains a little front rake. The 4runner rides almost identically to stock, but, is a bit more controlled...it does help off road with the bumps etc as well.

I have had spacer lifts, SAW's, Donahoes(ICON), Rancho, etc...the bilsteins have been the best bang for the buck yet. I spent $230 for the full lift(installed myself).

Go for it, you will not be dissapointed unless you are looking for the tallest lift you can get.

Tacundra, just curious... Did you have to cut the rubber cones inside of the rear springs for the spacer install?

Oh man, so many helpful reviews. At least there seems to be too many good options rather than "pick the least crappy option".

Tacundra: How does this Bilstein adj. shock lift work exactly? Is installing it as simple as replacing the stock shocks? I guess Im just confused at how a damper can lift the truck.

Why are you choosing the daystar 2.5"? Price? Performance? Reliability?

I am currently on the fence on a 3/2 cornfed lift. I just want to gather as much info as possible before I purchase.

Was the cornfed lift an option for you? If it was, why did you choose daystar over cornfed?

What size/make tires are you running? Rim size?
