Bilstein 5100 adjustables...dont exist.

I've gone to a few local off road shops trying to get quotes for Bilstein 5100 ,height adjustable shocks, installed on my '99 2WD.

Every shop has told me the same thing "that shock is not available for the '99 4Runners".

It's listed on ToyTec as a shock that fits the '99 and they also use it on one of their branded coilover assemblies.

Can anyone offer insight to this? Do I have to get a 5100 that is intended for another vehicle?

Yeah, the 5100's have a different top mount to them. If you look at Toytec's site, the Bilsteins come with a mounting adapter so they will fit the 4Runner.

I am running them on my 98 Runner that I took off of my 97 Tacoma when it was bought back. Just order them for a 95-04 Tacoma, its all the same. As for the top mount being different, that is incorrect, they are rotated slightly but you can turn the mounting plate to fit the 4Runner.

If the OP is referring to the front shocks, I agree with you 100%. I was speaking if he was looking for the rears.

If you order them for a 1st gen Tundra they will be cheaper and the valving is better suited for our heavier vehicles

The best bet is to order either the Toytec or the All-pro 5100's that have been set up to work with our vehicles. I am not sure why you would want to go someplace that is not as familiar with the options for our trucks and might sell you the incorrect set-up.

I was trying to get a deal on tires, wheels, and the shocks all installed at one place for bargaining leverage. A lot of shops aren't too keen on installing something that you didn't buy from them, so then you get hosed with a heavy install fee by those arrogant goons.

Most likely I will end up ordering from ToyTec and then paying $300 to have my shocks installed by some "off road shop" that's owned by a "former race champ". Sometimes Bro-Cal can be a pain.

Or better yet order up a tire and wheel package and when your shocks come in ask here on the board if any of would help and then it costs you food and beverage and we install for you and save the Bro-Cal shop price. There are several of us here that have thrown wrenching/lift parties and are more than willing to help work on other members trucks.
