I purchased my lift off of a 4runner that was rolled in moab. at the time it had less than 10k miles on the suspension. The current setup is a Bilstein 5100 front coilover and old man EMU rear with 891's. I have put around 110k miles mostly highway on them since the installation on my truck. This setup has worked pretty well over all. At times i wished it was not as harsh as it is but overall i have been happy. A few months back i noticed this.
The top seal came loose and is just floating on the shaft of the shock on the front right hand side. I have tried to get it back into place but it keeps coming loose. All of the oil came out so now the front right hand side has no damping and just pogos. I also have a lot of miles on it so it is just time to replace the shocks.
I am going to order some new stuff and need some help making a decision on what to do. I am just considering ordering new shocks all the way around. This is the cheapest option and what i am leaning towards. I was just going to order new front shocks and pull the the coilovers out. I will either get a spring compressor or take it to a shop and have the new shocks installed on my existing coilovers. I will also just order the matching bilstein for the rear and keep my existing coils. Anything wrong with this idea? How important is it to get new coils based off of 120k that was mostly highway miles with some offroading mixed in.
Option 2 is going to be redoing everything with all new stuff. I am planning on doing this down the road but for right now the idea of keeping it under $500 and just getting another 40k+ miles out of what i have sounds good.
