Bilstein 5100 suspension lift

Finally pull the plug and bought Bilstein 5100 this week and every excited to have the parts by next week. unfortunately, I just found out from the company that the shocks are back ordered :sobbing: and it can take weeks or months before they will be available. Any advise if I should cancel the order or if you know a company that have them available for shipping.

Also, can kindly let me know what are the wrench socket sizes that I'll be needing to be able to remove the nuts and bolts of the items below.

A-arm
Tie rod
Front/Read Shocks

See if any other vendors have them in. I would check with shockwarehouse & 4wheelparts. Also try searching just the part numbers as some vendors only list them as FJ shocks and don't know they'll fit the 4runner.

I believe everything can be removed with 10,12, & 14mm. To get the back shock off you can either grab the top of the stud with vise-grips or an (I think) 8mm open end wrench. A lot of members end up cutting the rods though.

edit: on further thought, I believe you may need a 18mm or 19mm socket and wrench to remove the sway bar or tie rod but I can't remember
 
Where did you order them from?
I found my 3-4 months ago from Wheelers.com. They had them in stock and they were $20 or so cheaper than some other places. May be worth looking into.

Thanks for your reply. I definitely check wheelers and see if they have them on stock. I ordered it to the other company that's on par with wheelers.

If wheelers have them, should I go ahead in canceling my current order and then order another from wheelers. What's your opinion or suggestion on my situation.

I just ordered a full set of Bilstein 5100s from shockswarehouse.com. They were in stock maybe you can try there. I also found a discount code that worked to save $28 its F1502011. I the final price was something like $320 and free shipping.
 
get a set of metric ratchet wrenches, they are a life saver on the top plate nuts, especially in inboard one. Get some punches to help re align shock/LCA, or you can use a large screwdriver. How may miles? If you have the money might want to replace links at this time too.

Thanks for the input. I found a near by shop that's doing sale on there wrenches, which I can probably get a set of metric tools. Currently it about 93k.

I bought a set of 2009 FJ springs from a member on here. The 4 shocks I ordered from Shockwarehouse.com are the following:

F4-BE5-C475-H1 2 of these adjustable FRONT

F4-BE5-E703-H0 2 of these REAR

Bilstein 5100s

Somebody correct me if Im wrong. I used the discount code: F1502011 which saved me $28.

Do the rear shocks give u any lift?
 
The front are the only adjustable shocks. The rear are just the same as what you've got only better, much better. The rear does not add any lift but if you use FJ springs you will get about 1/2" from the springs.
 
I ordered mine back in March from 4wheelparts.com. The rears are backordered. The estimate was this week for shipment...We'll see. The rep said bilstein cant keep up with demand.

I would have cancelled my order but I'm not really in a huge hurry to put them on. All the trails in my area are covered in 12 feet or more of snow.
 
Good news, I was able to cancel my order from the previous company and they wave the cancellation fee :bravo:.

Also, just ordered the front 5100 shocks from wheelers together with the OME 895 rear spring and hopefully will be delivered latest by Monday :banana:.

The 5100 rear shock are back order and after checking with 3 companies they have all different availability date.
 
Finally got my new toys and already adjusted the Circlip to the desired lift but I'm curious if there's any special that needs to happen between the Circlip and the Coil/spring seat.

The Circlip moves in the groove but not sure what needs to be done with the coil/sprint seat when it inserted in the shock :ybrick:.

I just got mine too. I find it amazing that the little clip is holding up the whole front of the vehicle up.

I know Bilsteins are well engineered, and well tested. But did this make anyone just a little nervous?

I think You're all GOoD...don't worry lifetime warranty folks. Mine was installed last March 2010..no problem

I'll be installing the front tomorrow and hopefully the back shock will be available soon :tongue: so that I can finish my truck. I'll try to check the store that I pass by this morning to see if they have the back shock

Just finished shopping for a 3ton jack and will be getting the stand today and ready for tomorrows action:boxer:

Also, will visit the local toyota stealer for the Red loctite and links for the sway bar.

competed the front lift and I notice that the ride is better compared to the stock shocks. Here's the before and after measurement for the front lift. Will be doing the back lift when the back shocks is available.

Also, I notice that the DS and PS have different measurement before and after the lift. Is this normal or do I have to do something.

--> before
Driver side: 32 5/8''
Passenger side: 33 1/8"
Front bumper: 15"

--> after
Driver side: 35 1/2''
Passenger side: 35 7/8"
Front bumper: 18 3/8"
