Bilstein 5100, what setting to use?

Putting in 5100s all around to replace my kaput XREAS. For now, I just want to take out the forward rake so I can mount some 265/70/r17s. About a 2 inch difference between front and rear according to my calibrated eyeball. Im guessing setting 3? 1.75 or somesuch?

Between front and rear is 2to1 meaning for every inch of lift in the rear you'll need two up front. So if you used the 2.5 perch up front you'd need 1.5 in back to eliminate the rake. Another alt is using Tacoma TRD struts resulting in 2 inches of lift. They can also be had for cheap with low mileage.

It's not a ratio of front to rear lift. If you were to lift the rear 3" you wouldn't lift the front 6" to level it out, you'd be waaay nose high.

On stock springs, the front sits ~1.5" lower than the rear. Both the 2nd and 3rd clip on the 5100s (1.25" or 1.75" if I remember right) will get you very close.

Have you seen the no spring compressor method for changing out shocks/springs? It's not too difficult, the hardest part is levering down the lower control arm far enough to get the lower shock mount in its saddle. Having a 2nd set of hands (at least for that 5 minutes of the job) is helpful. Could save some $$ that way...

It's not too difficult, the hardest part is levering down the lower control arm far enough to get the lower shock mount in its saddle. Having a 2nd set of hands (at least for that 5 minutes of the job) is helpful. Could save some $$ that way...

Huh...interesting. But time is a constraint here, and I have a 3 hour class tommorow that I wanted to drop my rig off to get done during class. My guy was also going to take a look at my manifolds to determine how much of a pain in the ass my headers will be. And of course, working retail, Im gonna be at work this weekend.

You may end up with a little negative rake (nose high) with 2.5 setting and may pass the 3" front lift requiring you to have new UCA to correct alignment. I contemplated with both measurement and decided at 1.75. I'd rather sit pretty level or a tiny smidge of positive rake than go over 3" lift and needing brand new UCA. Good luck bud!
