Bilstein 5100 with cornfed spacers in the front?

I read it on toytec saying

NOT RECOMMENDED FOR USE WITH SPACERS OR COILS UNLESS LOWEST (STOCK) SETTING IS USED.

I'm thinking replace my shocks with 5100 @ 0.85" and put my FJC springs + Cornfed spacers in the front. Personally...i don't see why not. Anyone actually put spacers and 5100 to lift the front? Or explain to me why that's not a good idea?

And in the rear i was thinking about getting 1" spacers with 5100.

As far as I know, you will be fine as long as you don't exceed 3 inches of total lift in the front. However, I don't see the need for the spacers, use the next highest setting on the 5100s.

I put my 5100's to the .85 notch and added OME front springs (884). Inner CV's look fine (no rubbing) and no ill performance wheeling or daily driving.

I want a little over 2.5" lift in the front and putting my setup now at the 0.85 notch should give me just over that. Also since it's a preload spacer it actually makes it a little stiffer up front. Once I put in the 1" rear spacers i was hoping to stiffen up the ride with the combination with the 5100.

You get 2.5 with stock coils, you will get more if you use fj springs. Idk what it is, but mine are on the third notch and I'm considering moving to the fourth cause it isn't stiff enough. I'm getting more nose dive and such then before. Either way, you should be fine.

2.5 with stock coils at the 3rd notch right? I just want to put mine on second notch and hoping to put me at about 2.6" with the spacers and FJC coils. Then with 1" in the rear to get the 2.5/1.5.

i'm just doing research now...i only have 46k miles on mine so the xreas is still good...but i want to upgrade when i get new tires. Thinking about 275s but they don't have that size for the duratracs. ahhh

if ur going with 5100's & fj coils up front, why do u still need to use spacers on top of that for 2.6? sorry, but i just dont understand why u must use spacers too. imo, using the highest setting on the 5100 will be similar to a preload spacer already & combined with the fj coil should make it stiffer as well. personally, instead of going to that extent, id just go with the OME full setup & call it a day. http://www.toyteclifts.com/index.ph...tegory_id=108&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=72

imo, using lifting coils (unless on the lowest setting), or preload spacers is not recommended with the 5100 most likely for a few reasons, aside from a rough ride, the coils are so compressed that there may be too much pressure on the coil seat, & they may also damage the shock since its not valved for that,

I'm no expert, so I'll ask. How is a preload spacer different that adjusting the setting on the shock? All their adjustment system does is preload the coil to provide more lift, so I don't see the difference. I might can see on the lifting coils, as preloading them can have adverse affects, just not on a preload spacer.

its not. what im saying is if u use the 5100 on the highest setting for most lift, & use a preload spacer also, it may be to much preload for the shock to handle.so what other setting if any, will be safe? theres reasons why toytec says not to be used with spacers or lifting coils except on the lowest setting . similar to using lift springs with the xreas, it may be possible to damage the shocks. to me, its kind of redundant to get adj. shocks then use a spacer also, just use one or the other, or get a full system thats meant to work together, like the OME or toytec ultimate. i dont understand why someone would want/need to use adj. 5100's with a preload spacer? if attaining more lift up front or firmer ride is desired, just get the toytec coilovers,

Basically using a preload spacer is the exact same as using the higher up notches as the 5100's. That's the whole idea behind 5100's, they have a "built in" way to preload your springs. Using both a preload spacer and a higher setting on the 5100's is overkill and you're going to be pushing the structural limits of the shock and possibly damage something. Don't do it unless you aren't using a combined lift of less than 2.5", since that's the max that shock is designed to lift by preloading the coils.

OK, that's the same as I was saying (well, I had listed 3"). As long as you stay under a certain amount of lift, 2.5" in this case, there should be no difference. Sounds like we're all on the same page.

I'm not in any way encouraging the use of the spacer as I think the same outcome can be achieved without it, I just wanted to clarify that it *could* safely be done.

This is somewhat off topic, but also relates. Does the use of FJ coils affect which setting should be used? I know I'm on the 3rd notch, probably gonna step up to the 4th to max out at around 3" lift). I would think not as the shocks are designed to fit the FJ as well as the 4runner, but technically speaking they are "lift" coils when used on the 4runner.

I was looking to do this just because I wanted my front to be equally level as my back lift without lowering the back.. i know they say you are only suppose to put a max of 3 inches of lift on the front but is their any way to put 4 inches with any modifications of other things?

you got a good point there...my idea of using it with the spacer is to get about 2.6" of lift. Without the spacers it'll be 2.4".

or just fork up the $$$ and get coilovers!

did u forget that the FJ coils add about 1 in. by themselves? use them & set the 5100 on the highest setting & u should be at about 3.
