Bilstein 5125 Rear Shocks Questions

To those running this shock, i just ordered them from toytec and had a question about the eye to stud adapter.

i read in another thread that the adapter has a large 24mm bolt, how did you guys install it? getting a 24mm up there?

next question is how "reliable" and safe is this stud adapter?
assuming no one has any problems with it?

Just made the order so wont be getting my new equipment for a bit, but trying to make sure i understand everything before the install.

It looks huge but fits nicely. You can use a short 15/16 socket and put a large screw driver through the other bolt holes in the adapter to keep it from turning.

I have had mine on for about 10,000 miles with no problems. I think I just used a screwdriver to keep the adapter from turning while I tightened them down, like ALBPM said.

i have had some issues with this, and i only recently came to notice this. the 24mm nut has come lose, only on the passenger side though idk why, they both are set up with the same orientation, and i have cranked both of them down to the point where im afraid of either stripping the stud or nut. -ive gotten a small cheater bar on the end of my ratchet. and after a couple weeks its lose again and rattles around
 
I had to go to several different places to find a socket that would work. The one I had was too short, the next one was too long. Third one was just right. Three little sockets.

I put a pair of vise grips on the bracket and went to town on the top. They haven't come loose. I did lose the bolt that goes through the eyelet of the shock however.
 
Mine wouldn't stop making noise either no matter how often I tightened them. So I cut the adapters apart and made my own upper mounts out of them.

Or this. Exactly what I plan on doing eventually. Cut the top off the bracket and weld it to the outside of the frame.
 
Best way to install these for me was put the eye to stud adapter by itself in first. It has a bolt head welded on the bottom side. I took a 24 mm socket to hold the top and then from the bottom I took an impact wrench to it and tightened them down like crazy. Then install the shocks, top first then push the bottom on. Super tight and no noises yet.

For those planning or did the welding on the frame is it hard to find placement? Meaning how much room for error do you have while mounting it and finding the right angle for it?

I'll probably try the normal way first thinking of finding a socket to fit up there. But it's going to be hard. Any brands or places you guys bought the socket from that worked?
Is 15/16 the same size as 24mm?

Question to those who have it always coming loose.. How often? And remedies? Other than just keep tightening them back down?

I found a good socket size at my local O'reilly's. 15/16th isn't exactly the same as 24mm, but it's pretty close.

I haven't had an issue. We put a set on GSP's and his needed to be retightened, but I don't think he's had an issue since either. Honestly, I don't know how much they improved the flex over the OME's. I bought them to get a little better ride on-road since this is my DD. I do think now that I've run them a bit, that they're slightly less responsive than the OME's on bumps, but they're SO much nicer on pavement. Worth tradeoff.

well thats good news, i too always liked the way bilsteins comfort level ran and we installed a full set front and back on our tundra and loved it, so i have confidence the ride should be great.
just worried about the install.

nice howd you end up tightening the top nut?

Ours came with the same nut, which is why many of us are surprised when they back off. Maybe when installing them, put some good thread locker on the bolt.
