Bilstein 6112 Lift Heights

So I haven't seen this info on here or on the internet anywhere in my searches on the 6112's for 5th gens, but I came across it in an unexpected spot...Amazon! So I thought I'd post it here just so it's out there for people to reference. I hope it's somewhat accurate!

It lists the different lift heights for each ring position on the Bilstein 6112's with 7 positions. Hopefully this can help dial in the perfect suspension system!

Due to past experience with 6112's, I'd be leery of the Circlip settings for those lift references....

I can attest to the inaccuracy of the Bilstein estimates. I had mine installed at 4/3 and got less than 1/2". Going to pull them and reset to 6/5...

Bad experience?

No

I've got first gen 6112's and the listed heights on their literature is lower than what is achieved when installed.
On the 3rd Circlip, I achieved a 2" lift. IIRC they stated something less than that...,maybe 1 1/2".

FL 4th Notch FR 3rd Notch from bottom, 5160's in Rear with stock springs. 265/70/KO2's
Fender Heights, FL 36" FR 36" RL 37-1/4 RR 37-1/2
Did not measure before install as I had the Dealer install before I picked it up.
Hope this helps you.

I have mine installed at the 7th clip. Got exactly 2.5" in the front. Beware if you have a kdss equipped 4runner. The instructions are misleading. I had mine originally set at 7/6 as per the instructions above, but ended up with the passenger side lower than the drivers side. At equal settings, the truck is balanced side to side (or at least within 1/4").

Old thread revival. So just one final verification before endure the hassle....to raise the circlip and the front end of my 4Runner I have to remove the entire assembly...compress the spring and move the circlip correct?

YEP!

i got mine on the 7th clip for both. i have a slight lean to my passenger side. maybe get shims to correct it if you havent already.

if youre doing the lift yourself have fun! that kdss is a PIA. i helped my buddy with his lift on a non-kdss and it was so damn easy.

since youre disassembling everything. get extended studs so you can add in a spacer to acheive a 3in lift, if not now but maybe later. i wish i did. i dont want to deal with my kdss until i swap out my 6112 for coilovers.

good luck!

With a KDSS 4runner, couldn't you just install clip 6 on the drivers side and clip 7 on the passenger side?

you could but i got mixed reviews. some who did that experienced as much as an 1inch lean with a shim so maybe 1/2-3/4 without? others didnt experience any lean or some who did but recalibrated the kdss system.

i said f it and did it both at 7. my lean is probably just 1/4 judging by my fender to center measurements. not dramatic at all. so im assuming when i installed i compressed the kdss somewhat correctly?

oh and also bilstein never had instructions which clip to use for the kdss system at the time of install. i installed back in '17 when the 2nd gen of the 6112 was released? i think thats when it was released. 5 clip vs 7 clip.

So there’s a post of a guy on the forum who shows a 2” lift on Springs alone on OEM-equipped Bilsteins (non-adjustable). What’s your take on how he’s getting so much lift?

See: https://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-...ro-6112-coils-pics-inside.html?highlight=6112

I have a new 6112 kit posted for sale now because I’m thinking now about Dobinsons setup in part because I don’t want to preload 6112s with high clip settings to get the full 2.5” lift . Any advice is helpful.

I bought a 6112 kit and an extra set of 14" 650 lb/in King springs

I sold this guy the springs that came with my 6112 kit (14" and 600 lb/in)

The OEM TRD Pro bilsteins came with springs are 13" and I think 520 lb/in

So combination of taller springs and heavier lb/in rating ended up resulting in about 2 inches of additional lift after he swapped them out.

Thanks for clarifying Lollerskates. I think I finally figured out that the 600# 14” springs add around 2” lift on the OEM Bilstein (TRD Pro) shocks due to the location of the bottom perch. On the 6112 setup, it preloads the springs to get that much lift beyond the basic 0.8” of lift.

Hello!

So I’ve got 6112’s on a 2x4, and I went with Bilsteins recommendation and used the lowest clip setting, but I definitely didn’t get a full 2.55” lift. Still getting some rubbing at close to full lock, so I’m trying to figure out what to do from here.

Does anyone know why Bil says to only use the lowest setting for 2x4? What could happen if I went higher? Would it negatively impact the truck’s stability/performance? And if so, how?

If I do go higher than the recommendation, would I need to change out the old c clips for new ones?

And if I keep it as-is, could I add some spacers to achieve my desired lift or would that have the same negative impact of going to a higher setting on the 6112’s?

Advice on Bilstein 6112 in front/5100 in rear

New '19 SR5 owner here. Just ordered my 6112/5100s for install this weekend. Pretty naive to a lot of this so looking for advice on install specs:

Height settings? (looking to have 285 BFGs put on, what settings front and back are recommended?)
Are spacers required in the back?
Can I use stock springs in the back with the 5100 shocks?

Any recommendations/advice/what went wrong with your install welcome!
SO EXCITED FOR ALL THE MODS TO START!

I just completed the install on my 17 SR5 non kdss-

I installed the 6112 at the 7th clip on the driver side and the 6th clip on the passenger side. My 4runner sat 1/4" higher on the pass side before install..

I installed dirt king ball joint upper control arms (wonderful quality)

I also went ahead and installed 2" icon rear springs and icon rear 2.0 shocks..

I only gained 2 inches in the front and almost exactly 2" in the back. I still don't understand why I only gained 2" in the front- I am all stock except for the lift- no bumpers or extra weight at all :dammit:

But the ride quailty is great- install was pretty straightforward- 2 of us knocked it out in about 6 hours including lunch and beer breaks...
