Bilstein install

I've recieved varying quotes for the install of 5100's on my 2014 SR5. Anywhere from 400 to 800 $. $800 seems like quite a bit, is there any reason not to have it done for less from a local shop that seems to have a good reputation? Never been to them before, but online reviews seem good, and they have been in business for at least 20 years. It's just the 5100's going in with no lift or leveling at this point, so I assume it's a pretty straight forward job.

i got what i felt was a good deal to get my 6112/5160s installed with an alignment for around $450.

It was a reputable shop and i don't think i could be any happier with the job they did. Can't wait to go back to them when i get some rear springs, up the 6112 groove in the front, and install the camburg UCAs.

Find a shop you trust and have them do it. or learn a lot and do it yourself. Many members on here have done write-ups about lift installation and its not that bad if you have the time and equipment to do it. Knowledgeable friends are a plus as well.

i paid 400 for install of mine. I had a friend with shop access help with the install and i learned a lot from it, took about 5 hours in all

I paid $500 with alignment but that was for ICON stage 2 with heim joint UCA's. I went to a local working out of his garage. Shops tend to be more expensive and often result in sloppy work.

I'd say go for the place that has the best reputation rather than the cheapest quote.

I wish I could help to install with guidance, but injuries prevent that. The higher priced quote was with a full alignment included, but obviously prices vary on region. Super nice facility with a great reputation. The lower quote was more of a walk in type of shop, but some of the guys there have lifts which attracted me to them. But I'm also looking for whomever does this work to possibly be my main shop. I'm sick of Toyota dealers. I don't mind getting oil changes for free, but they are super strict about certain things. My rear wiper was out of whack so they fixed it but they said that once I hit 18,000, they won't do "adjustments" anymore since it's apparently not covered. I felt this odd, that they considered my rear wiper not working properly an "adjustment:.

The installs are fairly straight forward. I'm an office guy but did all the suspension work on my previous 4Runners with some friends. What was common in the 3rd Gen world was guys would have wrench parties or lift parties. Someone would have it at their house, a few people would come by with their parts and some tools and everyone would pitch in and go to work. Might install 2 or 3 lifts on a Saturday. Price of admission: case of beer. Now with 5th Gens being considerably more expensive, I think most owners will tend to be older and less likely to wrench on their own vehicles. (Not trying to offend anyone.) But if anyone is in the Philadelphia area and wants to set something up, I'm happy to lend a hand.

If you know your way around a toolbox, I don't think install is too hard, there's a full write up somewhere on the 5th gen section

Don't really know my way around a toolbox. Aside from that, with my back and neck problems, it's probably not a safe bet that I even attempt. But when looking at the shocks I was intrigued by the snap ring idea. I know I have read about these things failing, and it seems mostly due to improper installation. But is spring perch supported by a snap ring common in all struts? And if so, corrosion would be my next concern. I know from all my reading on this forum that folks love the 5100's. Do the stock Tokico's have a snap ring supporting the perch?

My local Toyota dealer moved to a new location but left the old facility open as a used car dealership, along with keeping their shop operation. I've developed a good relationship with those folks over the years and talked to the SA about his slow time and interest in installing my 5100's and realigning my truck. He gave me a price. Simultaneously, I bought new tires at my local Firestone store. I got a price from them for shocks and alignment. I've purchased multiple sets of tires from these guys too. I got all four 5100's installed and alignment for $190+tax on a Saturday morning. Shocks from AutoAnything $357.

I watched the guys doing it. Looked like a real PITA.

Show some loyalty to your local businesses and the smart ones will show you some.

Holy moly that's a good price for an install with alignment. I couldn't even dream of seeing that price around here in Westchester NY!!

maybe ask cbielat what shop he trusts? google tells me that south hampton and westchester are around 2hrs away from each other but for good service 2hrs may be worth it...

just thinking out loud... :blah:

also on my install i forgot to mention that i have KDSS and that makes things a little more expensive because it makes it a little more difficult, but since you dont have KDSS you wont have to worry about it.

I pai d$600 for install of 4 shocks, rear spacers, life time alignment and mount/balance of tires. so with that said I would say $500 and under is a good deal

I'm gonna continue to shop around. Was gonna put them in but I have a 2000 mile trip coming up. No real rush. But checking out a few more places won't hurt.

I'd say $400-$600 would be common. I'm sure you can find a place a lot closer than 2 hours away for that. I'd say come by my dealership and we can do it but you probably won't like the price lol. I also work with RMS Off Road a lot and they do pretty good work but still is a bit pricey.

I paid $575 for the install of 4 shocks, 2 rear coils, upper control arms, diff drop and alignment. Basically a complete toytec kit. Took the guy 3 hours to do, his shop is next to toytec here in Colorado.

I was quoted 500, ended up being about 400 I think since they said I did not need alignment. transformed my car.

Is RMS in Southampton? Me and the lady spend a weekend out in Montauk every year right after labor day. I'm actually from the Island, born and raised in Plainview. Southampton is a lot nicer than Plainview, LOL. Have you heard of Extreme Vehicle Builders in Danbury CT?

No, it's in Bohemia, NY. Closer to an hour from Southampton. I'm actually from MA and moved down here for a career change about 8 months ago. I haven't heard of that shop before but I do wheel with a good crew from CT.
