Bilsteins, OMEs, my many questions...

First off, this forum is awesome and glad there is a resource like you guys. I have searched and searched, but no definite answer. Here is the criteria I have and am looking to satisfy:
-'00 4Runner Sport V6 128K Miles on original blown stock shocks.
-Do not offroad often, want a ride as close to OEM stock with a mild lift to clear very slightly bigger BFG ATs.
-Want the truck to be level with no saggy rear

I planned on buying all brand new Bilstein HDs and mate them to new '99 "tall" springs and get approximately 1" lift, but would hate to spend all that money for the rear just to sag so I am planning on other options.

My questions I have after all my research:
-Any impressions between the "comfort" and "standard/normal" shocks, which would be closer to OEM?
-For the Fronts, I planned on the 880 or 881, what is the approximate lifts and road ride impressions?
-For the Rears, I planned on the 906 or 890, what is the approximate lifts and road ride impressions?
-At what height will the diff drop be needed as well as the e-brake bracket?

Thanks for all your help and input to get me setup properly!

First off Welcome to the Forum. I am formerly of the North OC area and glad to see yet another So Cal local. I ended up going with the Bilstein 5100 Series all around. The front Coilovers a stiffer the nstock but still nice ride. Probably the best two sources for info would be www.Toyteclifts.com or www.SonoranSteel.com They both offer a variety of lifts and have people there that have a wealth of knowledge and would be able ot get you the system that would suit you best.

Pikeman, I know you like your Sonoran Steel lift, curious to know how/why you decided on their stuff instead of toytec as it appears toytec is not nearly as expensive. By the looks of this, I like the 1.2 with 2.5 lift all around.

The 1.2 gives you more like 4.5 in the back with the Land cruiser coils and 2.5 up front with his C-Clip adjustable bilsteins. I made up my mind I think a little prematurely as when I first joined the board everyone was saying if you wheel then the 1.2 is the only way to go. I try to research things and save for what is considered the best for what I want to do. If I need or want something I will go without until the funds are there to get top of the line. Personally if I could go back 5 months I would probably buy the Toytec Ultimate lift. It uses the same Bilstein Coil overs I purchased from All-Pro that is a threaded adjustment and can actually lift 3.5 in although with CV angles you can only lift 3" without constantly tearing boots ( I adjusted mine to high at first so I know first hand) I have not blown a CV joint itself but I am on my second set of boots now.

The performance of the 1.2 is great off-road and the ride is very good especially with the Bilsteins. Although sometimes on the street it seems a little twitchy or sensitive. I think if I were to be looking for minor lift and rarely off-road I would go with the OME lift or the 7.2 system from SS. I recommend calling both shops listed since they are the two that have specialized systems for our 4Runners and not a Tacoma kit that "will work". However Downey Off-road also makes kits for our trucks. Main thing I tell people though is get realistic about how you want to use your vehicle and then make best educated decision from there.

Steve at Sonoran told me a few mins ago the 7.2 would suit my needs and take the tires to 265/75/16. Big money for this system, he said it will ride beautifully.

before you spend any money, RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH, look on other forums and boards, then go with what YOU want...

Pikeman, Thanks for the welcome and hope I see you out and about (around OC, Cerritos, and LB) can't wait to get my Ivans back from the shop as my brother who previously owned them road rashed them bad. I am pretty sure I will be going with the OME lift since I've been reading at work while I should be doing work. I used to be go big or go home mentality, but as age sets in and other priorites have come into my life, I am thinking more practically. The Bilstein HD and 99 Springs seem just right but that worry of the saggy rear end is not something I look foward to. Thanks all!

Once I get my lift on, I'll be selling my BFG AT's hella cheap! They're 265 75 16's and have about 3K miles on them. I live in Nor Cal and go to Santa Cruz/San Jose often so we might be able to work something out. Let me know if interested...Jeff

410toy, that is pretty much what im starting to understand based on everyone's replies. ive put alot into this baby restoring her to mint and beyond, i have a feeling im going to go with the sonoran 7.2, just have to be able to justify the 1300 plus 500 or so in labor, plus 4 new tires at 150 a piece. sonoran says that they have many more parts in their kit that toytec leaves out. anyone know of anyone with the 7.2 on this site?
