bilsteins with spacers??

hey guys, i have an off the wall kind of question here but bare with if you will....i'm going to need to replace the shocks and struts on my T4R here in the near future and i would like to get a lift but am a little strapped for $$$ like most of us....so i was thinking, could you do the 5100's set to .85 and something like a toytec spacer front and rear rather than the fj springs that are so popular to save some money...and would i be saving money? any and all opinions/advice is weclome and super appreciated!

I tried using 1.5" spacer (3" of lift) with Bilsteins set above the lowest / stock setting and it wouldn't work... the lower ball joints would not re attach. I was lifting the lower control arm with a floor jack and the entire truck was lifting off the jack stands and the lower ball joint was still not going back together!
