Bird dropping damaged my paint!!!

Hi Everyone!

Couple of days ago I noticed a bird dropping the size of a quarter on my hood. I left it there and washed it off yesterday.

Know I have a clear trace of this thing on my hood. My truck is 04 Galactic Grey. I tried to take it off with car shampoo and soft cloth - no luck so far.

It looks like it penetrated my clear coat.

Any suggestions on how to take it off? Is it even possible without using a body shop? Has it happened to anyone of you before?

Please provide details. I guess, next time I will not let it sit and wash it off immediately.

Yes, bird poo will damage paint! So will bird eggs. I have a dark charcoal grey Toyota Pickup and 7 or 8 years ago a bird pushed an egg out of its nest, landing on the hood of my pickup. It made a 3" little splatter which dried up. I knocked the bulk of it off and intended to take it to the car wash on the weekend anyway, so it got left there for four days or so. When I finally washed it, the splatter mark was still visible! Nothing I did would clear up the mark... buffing, rubbing compound, many other products. I took it to a body shop to have it professionally fixed, but they told me that the acid or whatever in bird droppings, eggs, etc actually penetrates the clear coat and can have a "clouding" effect on the paint layor itself, especially dark colors like black or charcoal. He said they could buff the hell out of it until the clear coat was gone in that spot, or they could re-paint the hood. I chose to accept the "splatter" spot. It's faded a lot over the years, but it's still quite visible after all this time.

Now I remove ANY and ALL biological waste from my vehicle immediately when I discover it.
 
One last thing you may want to try is a clay bar. You can pick up a clay bar kit at Autozone, Pep boys, etc.

But in general, as bluewolf concluded - clean bird crap off your paint ASAP. Especially if it is sunny out!!! The sun bakes/heats the acic-crap mixture up, not good. Also, be careful not to just wipe off the crap, lots of time it is a coarse mixture that can and will scratch your clearcoat. I'll take the hose to it and try to blast it off first, lastly resorting to keep running water on it and gently brushing it off with a towel, flipping the towel often so I don't rewipe with a dirty towel surface.
 
On my old truck, the bird crap permanetly stained the grey plastic grille! It also ate up (kind of wrinkled, not broken clearcoat) my paint.
After that, I wash it off asap.

I'll tell you what works really well for me since I get it on my truck about every day. I spray Pledge on the bird crap no matter if my truck is clean or dirty. Then a clean cloth to wipe it off. Works really well and doesn't scratch the paint and leaves a nice, waxed surface.
 
I have the same thing on my bumper. Quarter size yellow spot on my white car. GRRRR!!!! What I originally thought was an oil spot was black crap instead. What are they eating?

Advice: DON'T FEED THE BIRDS!!!

Shoot..i have something on the roof..black stuff, size of a dime..tried removing it..but the darn thing is as stubborn as a mule..thought it was an oil/tar drop!! gonna go right home and have my wife do something abt it :dammit::happens:
 
Bugs too!! The little bugs don't matter, but if you hit a nice big june-bug that splatters a lot, get that muck off as soon as you can or it will leave a mark.

By far the worse story ever: My old neighbor had a Ford Explorer which he parked outside (no garage). Some damn cat kept getting up on his hood and spraying in the same spot next to the windshield. Twice a week or so, he would find a dried-up sticky cat urine mess on his hood, and immediately have to hose it off. Why some cat was doing it, who knows! He tried shampooing, waxing, anything to get the smell off so the cat wouldn't keep coming back and do it again. This went on for MONTHS, and eventually caused the clear coat to "craze" (disintegrate) in that spot on his hood.

2 cats were probably fighting over the warm car hood. They kept peeing over each other's mark as a fight for territory.

Oh no! I had bird crap on my hood for a week until I washed it off. I did not realize any damage to the hood after the carwash, but I have to check again. My truck is at the dealer now getting the sunroof replaced so I will know at 6. Now I am nervous!!!!! I never knew bird crap can do such damage. They say it is lucky.
 
My sunroof is still messed up so I could not even pick up my truck today. I just hope that there is no damage from it on my hood. If there is, I will go around driving and hitting as many birds as possible for retaliation! :arrow:
 
You might want to try asking the garage to wash it for you. They know all of the tricks and could possibly work over the spot - if there is one - with a professional touch!

I asked them but they were too busy. I got it back and there was nothing. I guess I was lucky this time!
 
mud will do it too, even if you wash it off a few hours later. i've tried everything, won't get the spots out - the heat from under the hood cooks everything on.
